Part of the "Outer Banks" experience has to include eating lots of fresh local seafood. In our recent trip, we had numerous seafood dinners - but actually none better than at North banks in the Timbuktu complex. From the outside, the restaurant looks pretty big - but it's actually quite tiny - and so the wait was pretty long. Luckily there are lots of fun and interesting shops nearby (check out Nag's Head Hammocks!) and they provide a fun lobster shaped buzzer for letting you know when your table is ready. Once seated, the service was good - our waiter was attentive and had a fun personality. We had some hushpuppies with spicy jalapeno butter and the calimari appetizer. The hush puppies were good - but the calimari was forgettable. My wife and I shared the Mixed Grill - selecting Tuna as the fish -and it was excellent. The Tuna was cooked perfectly and was the single best fish we had all week. My youngest son ordered the crab cakes and they were actually really good - you know, for North Carolina (my wife and I lived in Baltimore for 10 years, so...). My older son chose the Salmon and it was well-cooked and quite good (though he kept asking for bites of our Tuna). In all a really good meal and worth the wait.
