Description: We visited the last week of June, 2012 and they told us they had only been open 10 days. They handled a party of 15 as if they were doing if for years. The salsa was unbelievable! The food was light fresh and delicious!!

Heard this new little place was good, just didn't expect how good! This was not your average brown and yellow stuff on the plate smothered in cheese Mexican restaurant. Someone in the kitchen knows what they are doing at this place!!! They have put a very creative spin on Mexican food with layers of spicing by an expert hand. The only thing that surprised me was that, being a restaurant by the sea, some of the fish was farmed and not wild so you might ask. We loved everything we ordered and our only regret is that we live so far away. Oh that this would be our local restaurant.... we would be regulars! The Service by our sweetest server, Melissa, was so personal and helpful. She knew everything (even details about the mole sauce to make it different) on the menu and her suggestions were great. So the grand finale was our dessert of tres leches cake.....Best we EVER had....don't miss it. So I cannot stand to write one more thing because I want to be there!

Our renters had left menu for Agave Roja in our guest book highly recommending it. We were delighted to find such a good restaurant within just a few miles of our cottage in Ocean Sands. My husband had the Chile Con Carne Enchiladas (braised pork) and I had the Brocheta De Camarones (grilled shrimp with a delicious side of rice, zucchini and corn cream). Really fresh ingredients! Loved the freshly made margaritas too! Service was excellent though they were starting to fill up when we left - and this is off season! We understand they are open almost year round. Prices reasonable too! Agave Roja is now on our list of favorite places to eat on the OBX - right up there with North Banks and Colington Cafe down in Kill Devil Hills.

Decided to try this place based on all the good reviews and let me tell you, we were not disappointed! Food and drinks were excellent, service was great, and the overall atmosphere was better than we were expecting. If you haven't tried this place yet, you might want to consider giving it a try. I would suggest the seafood enchiladas.

We tried Agave Roja tonight for something different in Corolla since it was newly opened in the last year. We were greeted by one of the waitresses since there was no hostess. Seated promptly. Waiter Jeff was prompt and friendly. He wasn't that familiar with the menu. Decor is a bit stark and clinical with cheap tables and seating. Didn't feel the warmth of a true Mexican cantina. DW got the Chicken Tortilla soup and the Bang Bang Shrimp tacos. The soup was flavorful, but the broth was too thin (needed Masa). The tacos were good, but had a hidden piece of avocado which was not stated on the menu (DW is allergic). I got the Pescado Veracruzano? Fish was com properly and Veracruz sauce had good flavor. Was a bit spicy which I liked.

We are rating Agave Roja as average on all counts. We probably won't return.
