Description: We visited the last week of June, 2012 and they told us they had only been open 10 days. They handled a party of 15 as if they were doing if for years. The salsa was unbelievable! The food was light fresh and delicious!!

On a recent Outer Banks get-a-way to Corolla NC, my wife and I (plus 3 y.o. granddaughter) decided to give the Mexican food at Agave Roja a try. We both love good Mexican food, but had given up trying to find any since moving to the east coast 25+ years ago. We had heard that Agave Roja's approach to Mexican food was "different." Too many Mexican restaurants serve the same basic 15+ combinations made with ground beef and other standard ingredients. This restaurant featured fresh seafood, beef, and chicken on traditional choices such as tacos, enchiladas, etc., as well as other unique choices. We started with a beef tamale appetizer that was terrific, followed by a delicious dinner. Service was outstanding and their classic margarita is great. The place is not all that big - only about 15 or so tables, and was full by 7 pm on a Thurs night. Bottom line: if you want Mexican food that is unique, authentic, and delicious, you need to visit Agave Roja.

From the decor to the interesting tequila choices and the Spanish subtitled animation playing on the screen behind the bar, this place is very cool. The food is amazing. Fresh and interesting yet authentic tasting. Delicious vegetarian options, and unofficially gluten free (if you go for the corn tortillas).

Not sure why some reviewers are down on this restaurant. Food was excellent. Be sure to try the sangria. A pitcher is enough for 4 people. More than ample servings for the price. Servers work as a team so attention is excellent. Our main server, Melissa, was friendly and attentive. You need to eat at this restaurant.
