“Interesting Lighthouse”

We didn't climb to the top - but it was a beautiful lighthouse. There was a lot of information about the lighthouse in the small gift shop.

“My knees were killing me”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

My knees were killing me, but the views were breathtaking! There are 200+ steps going to the top of the lighthouse. Once you are at the top, you can walk around the outside of the lighthouse to see the sound, further up Corolla, back down towards Duck, and out at the Atlantic.

“Currituck Heritage Park”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 31, 2012

There is way more to see/do here than just the lighthouse. The Wildlife Education Center is fantastic and provides an educational exploration of the history of the Currituck Sound and area. Start with the intro video in the auditorium and then visit the museum which is super well done. Don't miss touring the separate Whalehead Club and treat yourself to a bygone era of wealthy northerners who maintained remote southern coastal homes. Learn how these homes maintained their own "hunt clubs." Imagine the activity around this home during it's use as not only a private home but as a hunt/social club for friends/family. If you're into lighthouses, don't miss the Currituck Beach Lighthouse. Somehow, the unpainted naturalness makes Currituck one of the more pleasing visual experiences. If you're into it, make the climb and enjoy the view around the top. Imagine what it must have been like here before all the development. Now, a tiny bit of disappointment -- Old Corolla Village. I really don't get the village and think they should stop promoting it with a sign because it appears there is very little there for visitors except for a drive by. The school is now actually being used as a school (imagine that!) and not open to visitors. The church seemed to be a church (again, imagine that!) and is open for normal services on Sunday. But, overall, it seems like the Old Village isn't an integral part of the Park -- perhaps we just missed something here. We walked back to the Village from the Lighhouse and both my wife & I had the same, letdown feeling -- still, nothing wrong. Our advice. . . Wildlife Info Center, Whalehead Club, Lighthouse -- do yourself a favor and visit them.

“Beauty and history combined...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 30, 2012

The lighthouse is simply beautiful, I loved that it was not painted so that you could truly see the vast number of bricks that it took to build this treasure.

Has a great view from the top, so make sure you go all the way up. Lots of steps, good place to take some great pictures.
