The hotel is located nicely located at the sea between Corolla and Duck,. From the hotel to Duck is approx.a 3 miles drive and to Corolla 9 miles. This basically means that you'd need a car if you'd like to do some outings or shopping. Without a (rental) car the place get's rather boring quickly iunless you'd like to spend all the time sunbathing and swimming. The hotel has two very nice outdoor swimming pools. Breakfast is included in the price, but don't expect much of it. The rooms are pretty large and come with a fridge, safe and coffee maker. Free coffee and tea is also available every hour of the day near the reception and is of excellent quality. The people at the reception are very helpful and friendly. The only problems we had was with the cleaning staff, who did a rather bad job cleaning the room and the pool area.

We were there 6 nights leading into Labor Day weekend on a Hilton points stay. It is a bit of a tedious 30-minute drive up from Kitty Hawk, slow traffic and a winding road. Corolla is a newer community, most of it built after the road was completed circa mid 1980's. We found the entire hotel staff friendly and helpful. Two things that will not happen when it is busy- early check in or late check out. The first floor faces either the back of the sand dune or the parking lot. The outdoor pool facility is well sized for the number of rooms. The beds were quite comfortable, the room was fairly large, and the entire place was kept very clean. The property seems somewhat new, no signs of aging. The beach was the highlight for us, north and south of the hotel as of now there is at least a quarter mile break until the next houses were located. It reminded me of Cape Cod with warmer water and weather. The beach is great for walking- it goes on forever, mostly smooth sand, few shells or rocks.
The breakfast was adequate; plenty of choices, a lot of seating, very good at refilling-, some people preferred the nearby diner for made to order cooked breakfast.
We found it a nice place to enjoy the beach and rest.

On the plus side the hotel is clean and the staff is very friendly.

On the mediocre side is the location and the rooms; taking these two things into account this is a place that is very over-priced.

On the negative side, is watching the barely competant management harass the staff and generally conduct themselves as "used car salesmen/women."

If you have a family this is probably a good place to stay as most of the people at the hotel had several kids running around. If you are looking for a romantic or a quiet weekend...you can probably find a better place in Corolla or anywhere else on the Outer Banks.

This was our third visit but our first time staying more than a night. We have nothing bad to say. The staff was wonderful. Every morning the breakfast buffet was well stocked. The rooms and the hotel were kept clean. Great Hotel!

My fiance and I loved the Hampton Inn, our porch, the size of the room, the ocean view, the fact that hotel staff didn't bother you (only helped us when we needed silverware for our king crab legs!), the oceanfront location and the decent-sized mini fridge.

Corolla was amazing. Having grown up near Cape Cod, I now call the OBX my favorite beach destination. We got takeout from Route 12 at Timbuck II Plaza, ate at North Banks, had munchies and cocktails in our room and coffee/fruit on our porch every morning. The beach was never crowded and the laid-back nature of Corolla suited our vacation-style. Harris Teeter came in handy for snacks and wine/beer. I don't have a bad thing to say about OBX except we'll be back next year. We may rent a house with our family. The only draw-back of the Hampton Inn was the thousand bucks we dropped in 4 days. With a house, we can pay that much w/ a group of friends and stay for 7 days!

  • Liked — Beachfront location, amazing beach, availability of fresh seafood, quiet location
  • Disliked — bathroom could be updated and housekeeping came pretty late every day

Hotel is perfectly fine, clean, and well-kept. It is great for families, as it is right on the beach, and also has two clean pools. Breakfast is pretty good, and the rooms were clean and well-lit. But the whole place feels pretty sterile.

It is only for those not wanting to travel up and down the Outer Banks. It is at the more northern tip, and there is not a lot to do up here. If you want to go to Kitty Hawk, Hatteras, Nag's Head, etc., it is at least a 30 minute drive, so be aware that it is best if you just want to park yourself at one place and not drive around.

The staff is friendly, and very helpful.
