“Very interesting even to a non-Nascar fan”
Reviewed December 13, 2013

We were passing through Charlotte and my boyfriend wanted to do the behind-the-scenes tour of the racetrack, as he is a big fan of motor racing - but formula one rather than Nascar which we don't have in the UK. I am not interested in cars at all so thought I would be bored but actually really enjoyed it.

Our guide Aileen/Eileen was brilliant, she has worked here for about 40 years and so when she was telling us about things that had happened in the past (like Liz Taylor's visit) she was actually there at the time! We did the 2 hour tour and it was only me and my boyfriend; we were driven around different parts of the site and could get out and look at things. For instance we went into the media centre and radio recording booth and were allowed to sit in the chair and put the headphones on, and we went up into the stands and the executive suites. You can also have your photo taken on the winners' podium. The best part though was driving around the track; I didn't know it was tilted around the sides, apparently at a 22 degree angle. Even though we were in the minibus we went at a pretty good speed and it feels really strange driving at that angle then it feels really strange again when you go back onto the flat!

There was a lot of information and detail that was lost on us as we'd never heard of all the drivers she mentioned but it was still interesting and I think it would be excellent if you were a real Nascar fan.

They did ask us to arrive 30 minutes in advance but there really wasn't any need as we just paid for the tour we had pre booked then sat in the waiting area by ourselves doing nothing for 30 minutes. We ate lunch at the restaurant there beforehand; it looks like a really high end restaurant when you walk in but the menu has things at normal prices eg a burger for $12, and you get a great view over the track from the restaurant.

“Enjoyed it very much!”
Reviewed December 6, 2013

We went to the light show on their second night--Sunday night before Thanksgiving--about 8:00. One reviewer advised to be sure that everyone went to the bathroom before getting in line since there would be lots of cars and no way to pull out for a pit stop. So we did that. But when we got to CMS, we saw three lanes leading to the ticket booth 1/4 to 1/2 mile away. You could pay $30 instead of $20 to get in the express lane. But there were no other cars in sight. We drove right up to the ticket booth! One other car left just as we approached, and one car came up behind us just after we got through the booth. But it certainly wasn't crowded that night. We are not NASCAR people at all, but very much enjoyed our visit, and driving on the track for about half-way around. It was very cold walking through the Bethlehem Village, and there were no actors there, but it was still nice. We felt it was worth our money to stop on our way south!

“Christmas at the Speedway”
Reviewed November 30, 2013

Went to see the Christmas light displays last night… it is definitely worth the extra $10 to go to the Express Lane… where you still must wait in line. Tons of cars and people there. You drive on the infield and the track to see all of the displays and they show movies on the giant screen as well.
Had our grand baby's picture taken with Santa where the line was short and you get your photo quickly. You can get food and hot drinks, ride a little train, have a carriage ride or visit the Bethlehem Village where they have a nativity scene and stalls with live animals. Price was $20 per car or $30 if you pay to get the express lane, $50 for vans. Something different to do at the Speedway.

“World of Outlaws Sprint Car Championships”
Reviewed November 26, 2013

I spent some time at the dirt track at Charlotte Motor Speedway and had a fabulous time watching the racing. The facilities are excellent with numerous food choices. My friend and I had pit passes so enjoyed seeing the cars and watching the races trackside. Prepare to get dirty!
