“Awesome view”
Reviewed November 7, 2013

We stayed Oct. 5-7 for our first year anniversary. Great place. The staff was very helpful and professional. The room we stayed in was small but what a view! It was nice to fall asleep with the windows open and wake up to a stunning view of Chimney rock. The porches were a nice place to sit in the morning with a cup of coffee. The outdoor Jacuzzi and fire place were relaxing after a day of hiking... The game room was awesome with billiards and air hockey. One thing I would recommend to the owners is to maybe have a bar in the game room or restaurant?... I would suggest anyone coming to Chimney Rock/ Lake Lure area to stay here for a weekend

Thank you for the great review! We are so lucky to be in such a beautiful location. The views are hard to beat. It sounds like you enjoyed all the wonderful amenities we have to offer. You picked a perfect time to visit. It's still warm enough to enjoy being outdoors, but cool enough to enjoy the fireplace.

As for the Bar, we were finally able to get our liquor license at the end of May this year. A Lounge/Bar of some sort is in the planning, but we are still deciding on a design and what location is best. Check our website and Newsletter for updates!

My husband and I stayed at The Esmeralda Inn for one night (Oct 29th). We would have stayed longer, but we have 2 young children, and my parents actually drove from out of town to babysit so we could get a break. We have never stayed here before, nor did we know anyone who had. I chose this place based on reviews and the photos (the lobby did it for me if you must know). When we arrived , we were immediately impressed by look of the place even from the outside. The inside is even more impressive...something about this place is SO comfortable, it's almost as if it were our home (that sounds corny, but my husband made the same comment). The girl at the front desk (Scout?) was fantastic. She knew her stuff, and was more than accommodating. A special thank you to her for getting me a dessert from the kitchen after dinner service had ended. That was over the top in my book..dessert was great too. If you stay here (or not) you MUST eat dinner. They were serving bison (not a regular menu item) with mashed potatoes that was so delicious, my husband is STILL talking about it. We also had the mussels appetizer. If you like mussels, you will not be disappointed. If I haven't mentioned this already, the Esmeralda is immaculately clean. This is a huge deal for me, and they certaily did not let me down. Even the lobby bathrooms were spotless. Our room (and bathroom) smelled fresh and looked very modern (and clean of course). We had a queen bed with mountain view. The weather was so nice that we kept a window open so we could listen to the river across the street while we slept. Nice! We will ABSOLUTELY be back to the Esmeralda Inn. My only regret this time was that we could only stay one night. Maybe next time. For the readers of this review, I am 40 years old and my husband is 33. We were probably 20 years younger than most of the other guests. It might have been because we were there on a Tuesday, but it really didn't matter. In fact, it made our stay that much better. I really can't say enough great things about this place. We loved it!

Room Tip: A mountain view room is worth it.

Wow! What a great review! Thank you so much. We want our guests to feel at home here. It's a beautiful place in a beautiful setting and all of our staff take personal pride in keeping it so. We are very proud of our 100% cleanliness rating from the NC Dept. of Health and work hard to maintain it. We are so fortunate to have the staff we have. From our Front Desk to Housekeeping to the Kitchen staff; they all do an exceptional job!

I'm glad you enjoyed the Restaurant. The bison was from our Wine Pairing Dinner and was very good. The mussels are my personal favorite!

We welcome all age groups and have visitors from the very young to seniors who bring tales of having been here when the old building was in its prime. We welcome families with well behaved children as well as business groups and wedding parties.

You were here in our prime season. It's equally lovely in the Spring when everything is blooming and even in the dead of Winter when it's quiet and you can see deep into the wood.

Thank you again for taking time to write a wonderful review for us! We hope to see you again soon.

Stayed 2 nights on a trip from Kentucky to South Carolina, and it was the perfect place for a relaxing break. The hotel is spotless, beautifully decorated and the staff are just as lovely, very welcoming and helpful.
Our room had a view of chimney rock from the bed, what a great way to wake up In the morning.
As out stay was out of season the hotel and resort were quiet, but still very enjoyable. Sadly due to recent weather the park was closed for tree removal so we were not able to go to the top of the rock, although as the lift was also not working I think we had a lucky escape.
All in all a great little place, we hope to return again soon.

Thank you for your wonderful review! You managed to stay between the Summer season and Leaf season! It's a very pleasant lull, when the weather is perfect, everything is still open and we're not crowded! I'm glad you found us. Promoting relaxation is what we do best.

Chimney Rock Park is wonderful and now that the elevator is working again, most of the park is accessible. Next time you visit, you'll very much enjoy the trip to the top!

We have a great staff, who take pride in maintaining our 100% cleanliness rating with the NC Dept. of Health.

Please come again soon!

We stayed at The Esmeralda Inn Oct. 3-6. It was wonderful, very enchanting!! We were celebrating our 32 anniversary and wanted to just relax. We did just that....Well we did climb the thousands to steps to the very tip top Exclamation Point at Chimney Rock..and then we relaxed.
In the outdoor Jacuzzi! It was great, built into a rock garden/patio with a built in fireplace near by. We made a visit every night. Lake Lure boat tour was fun, we did a little hiking,, ate at local restaurants and enjoyed the scenery. The restaurant at The Esmeralda was fabulous. My husband is still raving about the Duck.
Ok the rooms are on the small size, but the inn itself is very inviting. You have the whole inn to explore. There is a very comfortable lounge on the second floor with a pool table, big leather sofas, a view of Chimney Rock and a small kitchen where you can get a cup of tea and a snack. They have coffee service in the AM, just outside the elevator, so if you are quick, you can sneak down in your PJ's. We had apple and pecan pie in the lobby each afternoon, served with that special Southern Sweet Tea.
Overall, a special treat for a little getaway!

Thank you for the great review! October is a wonderful time to visit. The leaves were a little slow to change this year, but it's cooled down to perfect Fall weather. The Jacuzzi and fireplace are perfect on a cool evening. Especially after making the hike up the stairs in Chimney Rock Park!
Did you have the S'mores Survival Kit by the fireplace?

Some of the rooms are not large, but we think that adds to their charm! I'm glad you enjoyed the Game Room, which has the fabulous views of Chimney Rock and the Rocky Broad River.

We are very fortunate to have Chef George and his staff! I think we have the best Restaurant in the Gorge, but I many be a little prejudiced.

I'm glad you had such a great stay. Please come again soon!

A great experience. The Inn is larger than a traditional bed and breakfast, but just as intimate an experience. We loved that it was both charming as well as contemporary and the staff incredibly accommodating and friendly. Perfect location just a minute away from Chimney Rock and Lake Lure. Would absolutely recommend this place to friends and can't wait to visit again.

Thank you so much for the great review! We think 14 rooms is perfect! We're large enough for small weddings and business gatherings, but as you say, still intimate. We all think of the Inn as home and want our guests to feel welcome.

The Hickory Nut Gorge is such a beautiful area, and we are in the heart of it! Within a short drive is Chimney Rock Park, Lake Lure, horseback riding, zip lining, two great golf courses and many more fun spots.

We hope you'll return soon and often!

We spent 2 nites here in early October. This is a 14 room inn, newly built in the footprint of one from the turn of the century. Room had a spectacular view of the area, and lots of windows that we opened to feel the fresh air. It was small and full by contemporary standards, but beautifully appointed with luxurious furniture and linens. Everything was fresh and clean. The sound of the river rushing through the gulch was a bit magical once the traffic was gone for the day. Had the included continental breakfast one morning and purchased the same meal with following day, both were very good, and beautifully presented, as was evening dinner in the restaurant.

Enjoyed the outside gardens, Chimney Rock, and Lake Lure. There was plenty to see and do for a full day. I wouldn't rank the area as a 5 star tourist site, but it was very, very pleasant. And, overall, I'd say the same for the inn. The room might be a bit tight for a longer stay (or claustrophobic if the weather didn't allow for opening the windows), but it was certainly a wonderful treat for a short stay while the weather was temperate.

Room Tip: We were in room 10, an upgraded king. The view was spectacular.

Thank you for the great review. We are in a beautiful area and the views are hard to beat. When the Inn was rebuilt after the fire in 1997, many of the features were upgraded for the modern guest's comfort. But it retains the warmth and coziness of the original. As an historical building, the owners were somewhat restricted in how much they could change the footprint, but even though some of the rooms are not large, they all have the wonderful furnishings and amenities. And there are some great public areas to enjoy the views, like the Game Room, Front Porch and the Stone Patio. The sound of the river doesn't hurt either! I'm glad you enjoyed the ambiance!

We're in a great location for many activities. Asheville is not far, Lake Lure is a just down the road and all the hiking, fishing, golf, horseback riding and other outdoor activities are within a few minutes drive.

I'm so glad you enjoyed The Restaurant. We are very fortunate to have Chef George and his staff with us.

We hope you'll return often!

The most beautiful wooden building in a small mountain top town.
Dinner at the terras served, was our best steak ever. Large rooms in woody style are cozy and clean.
The friendly young staff does a great job to make you feel at home.

Thank you for your review! This is the third version of the old Inn. When it was rebuilt after the fire in 1997, the owners tried to keep the feel of the original, but of course, it's a modern building with some upgrades like an elevator and private baths in all the rooms. Our 100% cleanliness rating from the Dept. of Health is something we take very seriously and work hard to maintain.

We do serve a great steak!

I'm glad you enjoyed your stay and hope you'll come again soon!
