My husband and I recently spent a couple of nights at the Esmeralda Inn for my birthday. This was my second visit to the Inn since I stayed there the previous fall with friends to enjoy the fall colors. I have already made reservations to return this fall. The Chimney Rock/Lake Lure area is one of my favorite getaway spots. The Inn is a very elegant and comfortable place to stay in this area. My husband and I particularly enjoyed sitting on the terrace outside the game room listening to the sounds of the Broad River. The food is excellent whether it is dinner or breakfast in the dining room or the complimentary breakfast served in the game room during the week. I have stayed in the front corner rooms overlooking the mountains which I consider the best rooms; one has a king size bed, the other, two queen beds.

Thank you for your great review! We are in the best possible location for relaxation. The sounds of the river and the views are hard to beat. Even if you don't stay in one of the Premium View rooms, the Terrace is open to all our guests, along with the Front Porch and the Deck off the Dining Room. You can enjoy the sounds of the river and the view from any one of these spots.
We love it when guests return again and again. It lets us know we're doing things right!
I'm glad you enjoyed The Restaurant. We just introduced our Summer menus - a little lighter fare. And now we have an excellent Wine & Beer List.

Wee look forward to seeing you again soon!

We stayed in a corner room at the inn. It was lovely and quiet. We loved the atmosphere and dining outside. The service was friendly and helpful. You'll love the fireplace, the fancy linens in your room, the treats at bedtime, and the appetizers for happy hour. We will return to this gem in the mountains.

Room Tip: Corner room on second floor; lots of privacy!

Thank you for your lovely review! We think of the Inn as home and want our guests to feel the same. The treats are made in-house. The beds are wonderful! And even in the busiest part of the season, it's pretty quiet here in the evenings.

I'm glad you enjoyed the Deck. It's hard to beat our views, and when you add great food, perfect!

We hope you visit us again soon.

This B & B has a great history and is newly built while keeping the look and atmosphere of the original which suffered a fire a few years back. If you are going to the Biltmore House, this is a great place to stay. Make reservations for the in house restaurant as it is fantastic. It is quiet and secluded and just a beautiful place to stay.

Thank you for the great review! We are ideally located for many attractions in the area. Biltmore is only about 40 minutes away. Great hiking, shopping, boating, zip lining - you name it, it's not far!

When the Inn was rebuilt, we tried to keep the flavor of the old Inn. I never saw the old building, but I hear wonderful stories about it. This version has all the modern conveniences, but with the warmth and rustic beauty that people expect from The Esmeralda.

I'm glad you enjoyed The Restaurant. We are very fortunate to have Chef George and his staff. They do a great job for us!

Please come again soon!

Having booked a quiet room and the most expensive terrace room i was shocked to see a couple sitting right outside the bedroom window, especialy when neither were wearing a lot!
They were equally shocked at sharing the same terrace area.If you are in room 2 you will need to have all the shades down permenantly and then you get zero view.
Not worth the money! This is a larger room and still very small.
Very disapointing experience.
The most helpful person was an understanding afternoon check in lady.

Room Tip: not room 2

We’re always sorry when a guest is disappointed. However, the room referred to is one of two Terrace Kings. Both rooms have direct access to the terrace. The other 12 rooms access the Terrace through the Game Room or the 2nd floor hallway. This a Public Terrace. There has never been any implied guarantee that the guest will have the Terrace to themselves.

The Terrace Kings are larger rooms, on the 2nd floor. The dimensions of the rooms are posted in the descriptions of the rooms on the website. If you are accustomed to staying in chain motels, our rooms will seem smaller. We see this as a definite advantage! We are an Inn. Our rooms are simple and elegant. The beds are exceptionally comfortable. We don’t skimp on the details.

Every guest arrives with different expectations. It is not possible for us to fulfill every guest’s preconceived idea of what a room will be like. I suggest you read the dozens of great reviews, many from guests who stayed in Room 2, and draw your own conclusions.

This spring, we had our wedding at the Esmeralda Inn. The Inn was beautiful and our families loved staying there, the food (and the amazing cake!) were delicious, and it was a the perfect setting for our small (35 person) destination wedding. The Inn itself is beautiful, a cute wooden structure sitting right off the highway in a beautiful area of the North Carolina mountains near Lake Lure and Chimney Rock. While the structure has enough patina to have character (helped by the rocking chairs greeting you on the porch), it doesn’t feel at all old or run down. The highlight, for us, was the game room on the second floor, where our reception went into the night playing board and card games with our guests. The space is open, inviting, and very easy to feel at home in.

One thing to note if you are interested in the Esmeralda is that Doug, the owner, is a little intense. This ensures that, despite its historic past, the Esmeralda lacks many of the drawbacks of historical inns - the floors don’t creak, the wireless internet is not only functional but actually quite good, the water pressure is strong, and everything from the linens and towels to the furniture is clean, new, and very high quality. On the other hand, if you are looking for a relationship that might be described as “touchy-feely”, Doug may not be your innkeeper. This did mean he was occasionally a little brusque as we planned things, but on our wedding day he was very happy to be facilitating our celebration and helpful taking care of the nagging, last minute details.

All the staff of the Esmeralda are amazingly helpful and accommodating. In particular, Joey, the event planner, was extremely helpful through the entire process. He’s sweet, easy to work with, incredibly detail oriented and has great taste. The day before our wedding, while we were arranging last minute details and knowing we were coming from out of town, he had menus, table cards and other materials already printed so they’d be ready in case we forgot - and while we hadn’t, we would have been happy to use them. The Chef worked with us to develop a personalized menu when we didn’t find what we wanted in their standard selections. Scout, who worked the reception desk as well as being our bartender, was unfailingly friendly and very helpful with local recommendations and advice. These three, along with the rest of the staff, the modern amenities, and beautiful scenery are all excellent reasons to choose the Esmeralda.

Room Tip: We have yet to stay in a "bad" room, they're all comfortable, clean and wonderfully fu...

Wow! What a great review! A little history. The Inn burned to the ground in1997. While this latest version has the feel of the old Inn, it is a modern structure with a rustic facade! It won't be burning again anytime soon. It sounds like you enjoyed the many amenities we have to offer.

Doug is a jewel! He is very detail oriented and truly loves the Inn, so he is very exacting in making arrangements for groups as well as keeping everything running smoothly in general. He and Aileen are, without a doubt, the best people I have had the priviledge of working with.

We are very fortunate to have Joey and Chef George as well. We have this wedding thing down! I'm glad it went well for you. Our whole staff is made up of people who care about the Inn and want our guests to have the best possible experience.

We hope you'll come again soon, even if it's without the 30+ friends!

The room was simple and clean--we liked that they don't allow pets, which keeps things fresher. The window air conditioner was a little hard to control with the thermostat, but there was a nice Bose radio in the room, and it was pretty quiet. The gardens in the front were a pleasure to be in, and the hot tub/fireplace area were awesome too.

Tip: The Esmeralda had licenses to serve wine in the restaurant, so you can't bring your own anymore.

Thank you for the great review! We think of the Inn as home and want our guests to feel the same, starting with that first phone call. We don't have scripts, we have real people who care about the Inn and the people who come to visit.

We all love our dogs, but not in our rooms! Our exceptional Housekeeping staff is responsible for the immaculate condition of the rooms and the Inn in general. We appreciate their efforts.

I'm glad you enjoyed breakfast! The yogurt is made in house, as are the egg dishes and the breads come from our contract baker.

We're in a beautiful setting. The river across the street is one of the most relaxing sounds you'll find anywhere. I'm glad you enjoyed the gardens.

Come back soon. It's lovely here in the fall!
