What an amazing treat it was to visit the Oconaluftee Visitor Center in Cherokee, NC. There's a museum inside the center, gift shop and you can wonder around the historical buildings outside to see how people lived in times gone by. The rangers are very helpful to answer questions that you may have about the park. It's worth stopping in to say hello and get a stamp on a post card, etc., of the date you visited.

A must stop on entering the Smokies from Cherokee. Gifts galore and a nice film and museum. The Old Museum was very campy and great, but the new one is really nice.

We prefer coming into teh Smokies from the North Carolina side. This visitor center offers a wonderful way to get oriented to all that is the National Park, explore the village and walk along the babbling river.
