“A Definite Must See!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 10, 2012

While in the area, make it a point to visit this location. The museum is very informative and interesting. Through its narratives, photos and artifacts, we received a good picture of the Cherokee and what they have endured, as well as the people they are.

“Interesting enough but could be much better”

There's an introductory film explaining the origins of the earth and the Cherokee people. It was unclear to me if many artifacts were old or re-creations. There wasn't anything telling me of the provenance yet it seemed that the intent was to present them as being old. There's a lot about the history of the Cherokee after the arrival of Europeans. There's also a special exhibit about the visit of three Cherokee to England. That was curated very well and was very interesting. The museum shop has some good quality items but, as with many museum shops, isn't for the budget-minded. For $10 the museum is a good way to get out of the heat for a while.

“Very informative”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 4, 2012

We spent a few hours here on our recent trip to the Smokies. The museum was very well done, had lots of information. It did involve a lot of reading; my dh (dyslexic) isn't much of a reader, so he and the kids were through the museum much quicker than I was (I like to read everything). The museum starts out with the Cherokee's creation story, then moves forward through time. At the end, there's a store where you can buy books and crafts.
