You get to Mingo Falls by walking up many stairs. But don't let that discourage you, once your at the top your not far from the falls. There is a bench you can sit a short walk from the top of the stairs. Bring your camera. We also saw a elk on the drive up, so look for those on your ride.

What a beautiful waterfall! I have been to The Great Smokey Mountain Park many times but I had never heard of Mingo Falls. We had stopped in at the ranger's station to ask some questions about waterfalls in the Cherokee, NC, area. The ranger told us about both the Mingo Falls and Soco Falls. If you visit Mingo Falls you need to know that it is just outside of Cherokee, NC, right before you enter Smokey Mountain Park. When you reach the trail head you have to climb about 160 steps to reach the trail, so it isn't accessible to all. Once you reach the top of the stairs there is only a short hike out to this amazing waterfall. There has been a lot of rain recently so the falls was putting on quiet a show. This is well worth the energy that you might use to get there. You have excellent views of the falls from the wooden bridge that is there. The falls is located on Cherokee land and is free.

The Mingo falls offer a short and easy hike, with a great reward! There are a number of stairs to climb, that being said I saw a number of senior citizens easily climbing those stairs. We went in early May, and no one was there but us - it was a real joy.

If you like waterfalls, this is a must see if you are in the area.

Mingo falls is the best and highest waterfall of the Smokies, and has the most water coming down. A great place to visit.

While technically outside of the national park, this waterfall is very easy to reach. It's a 10 minute ride outside of the Cherokee town proper, and only a 10 minute walk up some stairs. If you are in Cherokee, this is definitely worth a stop.
