“Map directions wrong”
Reviewed April 24, 2014 via mobile

Map directions were wrong, but one user's review was helpful. At least we knew to turn on Big Cove Rd when coming from Cherokee. But the sign for Mingo Falls, on the right, was very small, and placed on top of the stop sign of the street that you will be turning onto. We missed it, and most people will. However, once we reached the end of the road and knew we had gone to far, coming from the other direction was a nice big white sign clearly showing where to turn for Mingo Falls.

Here is the specific location: lat: 35.32.2N, long: 83.16.33W

Current Rd: unknown
Prev Rd: BIA-1410
Next Rd: BIA-456/ Sherrill Cove Rd

“word of caution”
Reviewed April 24, 2014

The view of the Falls is gorgeous, not at all overrated by other reviews. But for those with walking difficulties, it is very hard-- it can be done, it's rather strenuous, but with care you can do it. There are steps , sometimes muddy spots, big roots, irregular terrain. On the plus side, there is a handrail most of the way , frequent benches for resting, and you feel so good when you make it to the top. I didn't use a cane, but I needed help from my husband all the way. I'm still glad I made the effort to see Mingo Falls.

“Short hike for gorgeous water falls”
Reviewed April 19, 2014

This is a must see if you are in the area.

There are about 166 steps from the parking lot to the bridge at the base of Mingo Falls. But the short 0.5 mile climb is well worth the effort.

“Gorgeous”
Reviewed March 15, 2014

Just went here this afternoon and I'd say it's a must see if you are in the area. The falls are 120 feet tall and I think it's easier to get to than the other tall waterfalls in the park. It's a short (< 0.5 mile) but steep trail to the bridge across the base of the falls, about 3/4 of the trail is up a steep staircase and the rest is relatively easy dirt trail. The view when you get on the bridge and look at the falls is absolutely amazing. The waterfall was pretty "full" as well due to the extremely wet winter this year and that made the falls all the more beautiful.
We drove from Cherokee (441N) to the falls and there were no signs indicating where the falls are so it's a good thing we found out how to get there beforehand. Coming from Cherokee, you have to get onto Big Cove Road and continue for ~5 miles past the Cherokee School, KOA Campground and an RV park and there will be a tiny sign on the right that says Mingo Falls and that leads you into the parking area for the trailhead. I believe there are signs if you are coming from the park/Ocanaluftee Visitor Center but either way not that hard to find it if you know where to look.

We happened upon Mingo Falls while on vacation. I have to say that it was one of the best finds imaginable. It is absolutely gorgeous and a wonderful backdrop for pictures. Well worth the climb!!!
