Phenomenal Frozen Waterfall. Even though the temperature was around 12 degrees it was worth being out there. Easy hike for the beautiful view.

Very shortly as you pass the Oconaluftee visitor center there is a road on the left named acquiona. Make a left onto this rd, then another left onto big cove. You will see the KOA campground on right & the bridge right after that will have a TINY brown sign that says Mingo Falls. My GPS took us well past this but it was so worth the trouble to track down! The small parking lot is deceiving & then you see what looks like an eternity of steps. I believe there is 150 but straight up the mountain but that's it. The last step at the top you will see the bridge, make sure you go all the way up on bridge. What a view! It really was breathtaking! It was absolutely worth the steps!! I have hiked the 5.6 miles straight up the mountain to see Laurel Falls but this one is much taller. Laurel Falls is wider. You may think it's not worth the trip past Clingman's Dome but it is! When you come down the Clingman's Dome road you will see a sign that says 20 miles to Cherokee. It really didn't seem that long but it could have been because of the coyote we seen soaking up the sun or the herd of Elk we passed on the way! Loved it! It takes about 1:20 min to get back. You might think its quicker to take the interstate back to pigeon forge but it's not. We were told by a local, it actually takes an extra hour. It's much better to go back through the national park. We enjoyed it very much!!

Well, like everyone says, it's a spectacular view and well worth the short hike. The climb is 160 steps up from the parking lot and then 175 paces along a mostly level forest trail to the wooden bridge overlook. Possibly 10 degrees cooler at the falls than the parking lot below.

The falls are located off Big Cove Road, which you can get to from the north end of Acquoni Drive in Cherokee. The entrance is past the Cherokee Central High School and 1 mile past the KOA campground sign. Turn right at the small sign for Mingo Falls and cross Sherril Cove Road to the parking lot.

Thanks to all the prior reviews which encouraged me to go and see this sight!

Lovely waterfalls are my weakness. Around the Great Smoky Mountain National Park most of them are a long hike away from parking. I am not crazy about doing that many stairs (about 150 tough ones) but this was worth the climb. We stood and watched the falling water for about 20 minutes and chatted with other vacationers there -- took each other's photos, etc. Watch for the turn off from US441 as there is only a small sign.

We stayed at Cherokee KOA and this is so near. The sights are wonderful and its a easy hike. I have a little one (2 years old) and it was very easy to get to the falls with him. There is no entry fee and there is enough of parking space. This place is very near to the Blue ridge park way and unlike many falls around where you need to hike a lot this is very very doable for any ages.

I would recommend this for all ages. There is no bathroom facilities around however thats not a problem as this entire trip can be completed in less than an hour.
