More than 100 feet high and plenty of water. Mingo is a short hike up about 100 steps and then 500 feet of level trail. We visit lots of waterfalls and Mingo is in the top 5%.

Mingo Falls is tucked away in the Indian reservation that is just adjacent to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in Cherokee NC. It probably doesn't get the traffic that other attractions get, simply because of its location. It happens to be the tallest falls in or near the park. It is accessible from Cherokee. From the parking lot at the falls, there are a number of stairs to climb to reach the bottom of the falls. Anyone who is in good health should be able to get there, but be sure and not overdo it. It is very beautiful and peaceful. Once you reach the top of the stairs, there is a short, easy trail leading to a footbridge that crosses the creek in front of the falls. Great picture opportunities await you.

Mingo Falls is in Cherokee North Carolina. It's off the main tourist road down I believe Big Cove Rd. Follow that road past the KOA camp grounds and you'll find a small parking lot next to a trailer park. Go up stairs up the side of the mountain. It will turn into a short trail. At the end of it is a very tall beautiful water fall. You stand on a bridge to view it. So nice and peaceful. I can watch it forever.

Spent a week in Gatlinburg hiking to waterfalls at that end of the park, then spent our final day in Cherokee. Luckily we arrived at Mingo Falls in between rain showers. Wow! What a hidden treasure. The parking lot is small which gets traffic for the falls and also fishermen fishing in the nearby creek. Stairs are an easy climb and then a short path to the bridge that traverses the lower falls. Mingo falls is beautiful; the best falls we saw during our vacation. Our directions were sketchy, so we had to stop and ask at a gas station on Big Cove Rd. You'll pass a Cherokee school complex on the right. Once you get to the gas station, the turnoff to the right is only a couple miles.

There is a short hike to the falls. The first part of the hike is steps and then it turns to ground. It is not really steep. There is a creek along side of the trail. Once you get to the falls there is a bridge to observe them. You can walk under the bridge and walk closer to the falls. It is fun to play in the water and just sit and enjoy the sound of the stream. It is not as crowded as some of the other water falls in the area.
