If you have any health problems or have problems walking Mingo Falls is not for you. There is a pretty steep flight of stairs leading to the falls, but it's well worth the walk. The falls aren't the biggest , but it is a very beautiful scene.

Mingo Falls is on the Cherokee side of the Smokys and isn't really near much else. We were trying to fill in time before the play "Unto These Hills" and this spot was absolutely perfect!

To get to it, you turn off of 441 at the entrance to the park onto Big Cove Road. Follow it along the stream for 5 miles. The GPS might tell you to hop over to the other side, but that's a dead end. Also, note that this road is just outside of the National Park, so its not as pristine as everything else you're accustomed to driving through.

The falls are right by the entrance to a camp site. There is a small parking area. Take the steps up the mountain side (I believe 173 of them!) but once you get passed that, you're halfway there and the rest of the hike isn't strenuous at all. At the end is a bridge crossing the stream and before you is water dropping down a 120 ft fall! It's absolutely amazing!

We've invested hours and fought crowds going to see Laurel Falls (1.3 miles each way), but Mingo Falls (0.2 miles each way) is a fraction of the effort with 1 percent of the crowd. You can have this view almost all to yourself!

If you go to the Cherokee side, be sure to take the time to take a peek. You won't be disappointed!

I was so glad to see that this natural attraction is rated #1 in the region on trip advisor. It certainly lived up to our expectations. Enjoy!

I saw on trip advisor that this was #1 place in Cherokee, so we decided to see it. The signs aren't very good, but we found it. ( we don't have gps ) It was beautiful. When you get to the top of the steps, you have to walk on a path. It had rained, so it was muddy in places, so you had to watch where you walked. You sure wouldn't want to fall off of there. We met a nice couple, they took our picture and we took theirs. We stayed probably 30 to 45 minutes. It was well worth the climb.

This was a beautiful waterfall at the end of 161 stairs there is a platform over the river so you can stand right in front of the fall and get a great view.
