If you are visiting Great Smokey Mountain National Park, this is the place to stay (unless you really like to gamble, in which case you stay at the casino).

OK, typical, privately owned motel, with an absolutely fabulous location -- as they say on their web site -- every room has a private balcony overlooking the river. Open the door and all we heard was the river rushing by. Occasional fisher-person and tubers added to the pleasantness. Pick up a bottle of vodka at the nearest ABC (which is not very close) and some mixers (they provide ice cubes) and its really relaxing. Also, short drive to the casino (if that's your thing) and shorter drive to the park, which is great.

Oh, did I forget? Very reasonable prices and very friendly desk people.

Unfortunately, I cannot say much for the town of Cherokee.

Room Tip: An ordinary motel which a great location.

Our room at the River's Edge Motel looked like it had just been remodeled. Everything was clean and looked practically new. The bed was very comfortable. Sitting on the balcony, listening to the river, watching the ducks was very relaxing.

Room Tip: Rooms near the office are by the rocks in the river - I loved the sound of the stream. We were told that rooms on the second floor were quieter. Room 202 was nice.

Loved this place! Nothing like sitting on the balcony and watching the river run by! Not a "high class" place but very comfortable, clean and friendly. Staff was willing to help with directions and places to eat. I highly reccomend for a get a way from it all trip!

As I said in the title, this is not a luxury site but the fact that it sits right on the river made for a great stay. We arrived very late but there were instructions for us to follow and we had no problem. It had what we needed for a short stay working at the local hospital. It's also walking distance to two of our favorite places places to eat - check out Peter's Pancakes while you're down that way. The Qualla Arts and Crafts center is also close by and is a great place to check out high quality, authentic work from local artisans. Price is right and view is great!
