My wife and I stayed here for two nights while attending a conference. We chose it mostly because it was a good value: we got a better discount rate here than we would have gotten at the nearby Hampton Inn. And it turned out to be awfully nice.

We had a comfortable and spacious room with a view of the lake. The staff was friendly and helpful -- Kayla, the reception desk employee who checked us in, deserves special mention. Breakfast in the restaurant was tasty and reasonably diverse. Self-parking is free, and although the lot was crowded (in part because there seemed to be several large Christmas parties going on in the hotel) we always managed to find a space that wasn't too far from the front door. The hotel is a short walk from some good stores and restaurants. And even the lobby had a nice friendly ambience.

We noticed only one problem, which is that the Executive Lounge is closed all weekend every weekend. No snacks or appetizers on Friday evening, and nothing at all on Saturday or Sunday. This is something I've noticed at a couple of other small-to-medium-sized Hiltons in the last few months, and it strikes me as a serious mistake. Access to these lounges is among the most powerful inducements for frequent travelers to concentrate their hotel stays within the Hilton chain so as to reach or maintain elite status in the Honors program, and it's even more important to travelers who pay a substantial extra sum for "executive level" rooms. And it makes no sense at all to think that travelers would care more about having access to an executive lounge Monday through Thursday than they would Friday through Sunday. In this case it was a real shame, because the lounge -- which we saw through the locked glass door every time we walked from our room to the elevator -- looked beautiful and comfortable. (We did get coupons for breakfast in the restaurant in lieu of lounge access.)

We attended a conference at this hotel for a week. While the hotel is in a nice area with a number of places to eat and shop, the level of the service from the hotel staff was below average. We had set schedules for our lunch and breakfast and the staff was consistently late in having our food delivered. The buffet was sometimes not ready when we arrived to eat lunch and the night we were served dinner they did not set enough tables out for our group. They also did not have the amount of food that was ordered, i.e. they were short three prime ribs, etc. The quality of the food was terrible. The prime rib was so overcooked that it needed a sharp steak knife to cut through. The rooms were nice however my room did not have trash cans or towels when I arrived. They charge extra for a fridge so if you are staying for a week or more be prepared to see that charge on your bill.

Less than impressed to say the least. I spent the whole trip wishing I was across the street at the Marriott (where I have stayed before). The coffee pot in our room didn't work, there was no refridgerator and you had to pay for breakfast and internet access! Who does that anymore? There were no drink machines, so that you would of course pay for their $3 Cokes or bottled water. The carpet in the room had questionable stains, as did the bed spread. All I can say for the place is that the staff was very nice. Even they told me they wished the hotel would spend a little money on upgrades. Would not stay here again or recommend it to anyone else.

Room Tip: If you must stay here, ask for a room facing the lake; it is a nice view.

Stayed here in early December 2012 for a week business trip. Standard Hilton; good service and very helpful staff. Bar is a little small and it can get crowded at times. Walking distance to multiple dining choices and a nice park/lake behind the hotel makes for a nice end of day walk outside. Only complaint: not enough parking!!

Room Tip: Try to get a room facing the lake on a higher floor. The lower floors facing the parking lot/road tend to be a bit noisy.

I stayed at the Charlotte University Place this month for a conference. It is an older hotel, but nicely appointed, with lots of nearby amenities. As the hotel is situated next to a man made lake, it provided a wonderful opportunity to step out during the breaks to sit out by the water.

Room Tip: Pillows and comforter are down filled, so be sure to advise in advance if you have a preference for synthetic linens
