I had been looking forward to eating here for some times based on TripAdvisor reviews. The experience didn't deliver.
First of all the Café wasn't super easy to spot from the road. However inside the atmosphere was nice ... at first.
We were seated pretty quickly, which was nice because this is not a big place. However there was some confusion among the servers and we had two different folks ask us for drink orders. Then there was the baby. I have two kids of my own so I totally understand how difficult it can be to eat out with a young baby. However I also remember working hard to minimize the impact when we did that. The couple seated next to us didn't seem to care. Their baby shrieked for most of the time we were there. The Café is small and that much noise was really distracting. There was a fairly long wait for our food to arrive too and the baby noise didn't help there.
The sushi was great and if that's all we had gotten I probably would have rated New Zealand Café higher than I did. However my wife ordered Scallops and Shrimp. Her food was literally fired solid. The Scallops could have been used to hammer nails. My son's food was unexceptional but not nearly as bad as my wife's.
Overall if you want wine, sushi, or interesting deserts New Zealand Café is probably a really good bet. I wouldn't order anything else there though.
