The food was fresh and the service was speedy. The restaurant was within walking distance of the Hilton which was convenient especially if you don't know the area

Although I've seen several Chili's at various times and places, we'd never eaten at one before. On our way to Florida, we decided to try the one just off Arrowood Rd at 8161 S. Tryon Street in the Whitehall Commons Shopping Center on the southwest side of Charlotte, NC, simply BECAUSE we'd never tried them before. In walking in, the ambience is kind of what I'd call rural Mexico--nice but nothing fancy. There was a bar on the right with the usual population of flat-screen TVs. The dining area on the left was dim but each booth was adequately lighted. The barely-out-of-his-teens waiter was polite and friendly. The menu was HUGE, intimidating almost. Most of the items had a Mexican flavor but often tended toward NEW Mexico.

It took a while, but I finally settled on an appetizer sampler of three items, (2 burger bites, fried cheese w/marinara sauce (6), and boneless buffalo "wings" (6)which comes with bleu cheese dip but I bought the ranch. There were also the obligatory celery sticks as well. My wife had a chicken quesadilla, and was delighted with the bacon inside (more New Mexico). They had the usual margarittas, etc. but I had a good old Mexican Diet Pepsi (brave soul that I am). Service was friendly and conscientious (the place wasn't exactly busy but it was early in the dinner hour). The bill came to about $24.

I wouldn't mind going back to a Chili's if, for no other reason, than to sample some of the other items on the enormous menu. Of course, there is an enormous menu of other restaurants I've never tried before too, so it might be a while.
