Casual business dinner with good oysters and scallops. Food was excellent as was the wine. Waiter was overdone but probably meant week. Best dinner in Charlotte for

“Good Seafood”
Reviewed July 29, 2014

I went to Upstream last sunday as part of the restaurant week at Charlotte. It was a lovely experience. For starters had the lettuce wrapped shrimps and crab cakes. The shrimps had a light mustard seed coating and were good. The crab cakes were fresh and delicious. For main course we had the cashew nut crusted trout and prawns with NC Grouper. The trout was cooked to perfection and felt apart in mouth. The grouper was flaky and tasted great as well. For dessert we had berry crumble with vanilla ice cream. Dessert I would say was pretty average but they are known for sea food and not desserts. If you are in Charlotte this is a must try restaurant especially If you love sea foods. Little on the expensive side but worth every penny.

“Restaurant Week not Good”
Reviewed July 29, 2014 credit card Amex Card Member Review

Upstream is an upscale dining experience, but their take on restaurant week was not so good. They offered a salad, main course and desert for $30. The caviet was that only four main course items were offered at that price. Their kicker was that you could "upgrade" to an appetizer from salad for $4 more, and you could upgrade to some of their more popular main courses for a price. The pricing made no sense. You could upgrade from a salad priced at $11 on the menu to an appetizer priced at $11 for $4. You could upgrade from one of the four main courses offered for as much as $15 more for a premium main course. Very confusing. In addition, waiter was rude. They did not want to do any changes to any dishes. He told my wife twice that leaving bacon our of a dish would "change the flavor profile" and she should order something else. No bread, until we asked, no butter, until we asked. No fresh ground pepper. If they don't want to do restaurant week, they should just not do it. This is normally a great restaurant.

“Dessert decadent, meal and waiter sadly disappointing.”
Reviewed July 22, 2014

We went to this restaurant for Charlotte's restaurant week. The hostess was very pleasant and helpful. She reserved a space for us, even though the website said they were full. We mentioned that it was our anniversary and she congratulated us and gave us a little souvenir.
The waiter seemed like he had to be there and did not "want" to be there. He was not rude, but he defiantly was not pleasant. We only left an 18% tip because of his attitude. The food was very slow. We had to wait a long time between courses. The courses were very small. I had cod and shrimp. The fish was fine, but not of the quality I was expecting for the price. I've had the same quality at "your local neighborhood dinner". My husband had the Salmon, he said he was pleased w/ his meal. The atmosphere was pleasant, but not inviting. The dessert was wonderful. Hubby had the cobbler and I the chocolate cake. They were both served w/ ice cream. I tried both, they were sooo good, it almost made up for the rest of the disappointing meal. I do not plan to return to Upstream, but if I did, it would be just for drinks and dessert.

“beautiful food”
Reviewed July 19, 2014

Lights and floating leaves above your head in this restaurant...because you are 'under the water.' We started with calamari and scallops, then I had the mountain trout. Nice French red wine that wasn't too expensive. Dessert was berry cobbler with ice-cream. Great service, delicious food. Would recommend this place for a special occasion for a couple, or for a few couples heading out for a fine dinner. Valet parking.
