“Good Cajun Food”
Reviewed April 6, 2014

Parking is a nightmare unless you know the area; if you don't, use the valet.

We ordered a half order of Cajun Fried Oysters and Fried Green Tomatoes as an appetizer. The Cajun Fried Oysters were exceptional. Very fresh and cooked perfectly. The Fried Green Tomatoes were okay - thick slices of tomatoes that could have been cooked a bit more. Additionally, the remoulade was actually across one of the five tomatoes on the plate instead of down all of them?

We sat for a while waiting to order a second drink after appetizers, until we had to actually ask someone to send our waitress back to our table - service was not that great. Both of us had Shrimp Etouffée, which was outstanding. The shrimp were perfectly done, and the spices at the level I would expect for this dish.

I had the Bourbon Bread Pudding for dessert, and my companion had the Key Lime Pie. We were both fully satisfied with the desserts......the Bread Pudding is awesome.

Again we waiting a while for the bill....service overall was very slow. Tables around us with the same waitress were a bit faster, not sure why this was.

“Can't get much better”
Reviewed April 2, 2014

CQ has been around a long time, and I think sometimes it may get lost in the clutter of all the great restaurants around town. If you are trying to decide where to spend your $$ for a great meal, you have to know that you just cannot get a bad meal there. Going off the normal "Cajun" path this time I went for the fried seafood platter....an amazing, tasty, lightly seasoned and very filing selection of oysters, shrimp, scallops, and the best fried catfish I have ever eaten, Again on this visit, probably my 20th, the food, service and atmosphere were first class. Charlotte has great restaurants all over town, but it is hard to beat the Queen.

“Excellent food, home atmosphere”
Reviewed March 24, 2014

Four of us went to dinner in this former home. Parking is a free valet service, which was amazingly efficient. We arrived fairly early on Saturday, and the place was full. We had reservations and were seated immediately downstairs, near the front windows. There was supposed to be music upstairs starting at 7, but we didn't get to hear that because we were out before it started. The food was excellent. I had blackened pork tenderloin, and another in our group had filet mignon. The other two had chicken Diane. Everything that we ordered was excellent, and the servers were efficient, on a busy evening. This restaurant had charm that is impossible to find in a more modern setting.

“Consistency is key”
Reviewed March 19, 2014

This is my favorite restaurant in Charlotte, and once again it didn't disappoint. Charlotte doesn't have many options for Cajun cuisine, but what Charlotte lacks in quantity, Cajun Queen makes up for with quality. It's fantastic to grab a couple drinks and some apps upstairs with Bo or have a nice dinner for a special occasion in the other dining rooms. The repurposed house adds a different cozy vibe as well which reminds me of New Orleans itself. This place still continues to be a staple of Charlotte's dining scene.

“Sitting at the bar is excellent!”
Reviewed March 17, 2014 via mobile

We thoroughly enjoyed sitting upstairs. We arrived a little earlier than the main crowd so we were able to walk right up and sit down. Staff was helpful in beverage selection, providing a sample or two to help us make up our.minds. BBQ shrimp is just wonderful with a spicy robust broth perfect for dipping. We had a side of red beans and rice with our entrée which could have had a little more spice in it. Our fish as perfectly cooked and just delicious. The only reason I am not giving 5 is we were brought our bread and butter but no set ups so we had to wait for utensils.
