“Interesting Concept with some Hits and Misses”
Reviewed November 29, 2013

This was my first visit to Heist. My family had attempted to eat there on Father's Day but we learned the hard way that it's impossible to get a table on holidays. I had heard a lot about this restaurant and was anxious to give it a try.

This time our party of five did get a table quickly. The room did fill up quickly though. Heist obviously has a selection of specialty beers. I found it disappointing that they were out of two of the beers that our party were interested in. There were actually three beers that they were out of today. One of them was supposedly a featured beer that day according to the blackboard. Either the waitress needs to tell you what beers the DON't have when seating you, or they should update the blackboard. The beers we ordered were in the $4.50 to $5.50 range. One person in our party ordered a mimosa for $5.00.

On weekdays, at lunch time, they offer a special selection of menu items for $7.04 ( The area code for Charlotte). The waitress explained to us that the items are meant to be "shared". They don't all come out at the same time. Diners are each given a plate and can pass around the various foods as they arrive. Some of the items we ordered were Lobster Mac & Cheese- We didn't taste the lobster, only bacon flavor, but it was good. Duck & Caramelized Onion Quesadilla - Everyone enjoyed it. The duck was not too gamey. Fish Tacos & Tots - The tacos were very good! The tots were cheesy and tasty. They had a strong rosemary parm taste that didn't appeal to some in our party. We had two meals that came with the tots, one of the orders of tots was over cooked. Cuban sandwich - the people who tried it didn't really like it. The meat was chewy and tough and the roll was too big. Steak Quesadilla- was very tasty.

The service was good when we first arrived, however when it got busy the service got a bit confusing. We ended up with a plate we didn't order and a bartender helping out took my empty soda glass, but never told the waitress to get me a refill.

The vibe at Heist is for a leisurely eating and drinking experience, so they don't rush you at all. However, because of that, it took awhile to get our check. One of the members of our party has been there on numerous occasions and he said that he always has a hard time get the check in a timely fashion.

All in all it was a positive experience with good food and drink, but as far as we were all concerned .. nothing spectacular.

“Brews and Bites in an Old Mill”
Reviewed November 23, 2013 via mobile

Beer tasting with an interesting menu and authentic old mill surroundings - a step up from the rest. We shared flights and pretzels (soft & warm) with melted cheese - a great mid-afternoon recess from art viewing and shopping. Highly recommended.

“Wednesday - Whiskey & Trivia”
Reviewed November 2, 2013

Their Whiskey Wednesdays are outstanding! You can try a number of great whiskeys for $5 each. Their food is delicious - beer cheese, hummus, bbq burger, and flatbread; just to name a few. Plus there is Trivia @ 8:00 with DJ Eklipse ( Eklipse Entertainment). In the main bar, Diego is bartender-extraordinaire; in the "whiskey room" Stephan (pronounced ste-fon) is THE source of whiskey knowledge.

“Worth a visit or two, or three....”
Reviewed October 7, 2013

Had dinner and drinks with a large group celebrating a birthday this past Saturday evening, Oct 5th. I've driven by Heist before and glad I've had the opportunity to experience. I checked out their website prior to the evenings events and thought it looked like a great place to drink as well as have dinner. I opted for both that evening. Started with drinks at the bar, bartender was efficient and knowledgeable, after about a 20 minute wait for a table of 13 we were seated. Starters come out hot and with little wait time, and all the meals ordered looked great. The portions are small to reasonable and its worth ordering several items as the prices are affordable. I would certainly go back with a large group or just a date night. Walking distance to all the activities of the NoDA area as well. Several bars inside and Heist does have outdoor seating.
