“A fine hotel -- exactly as advertised”
Reviewed April 19, 2010

Stayed at the Dunhill for a quick anniversary trip to center-city Charlotte.
Parked in the adjacent garage in one of the many spots reserved for hotel guests. Welcome and check-in was warm and efficient. Our fourth-floor room, one of the basic queen rooms, was very suitable, with four-poster bed, flat-screen TV and marble-tiled bathroom. Free water bottles and Coke products in the room refrigerator. Walking distance to shopping, dining and attractions.
Free Gold Rush shuttle picks up at the curb outside the hotel and takes you to any center city point on Trade or Tryon streets. The hotel's complimentary London taxi is also available for short trips, subject to availability.
Our weekend stay got us two free breakfasts at the hotel restaurant. Service and quality were above acceptable.
In sum: Good location, decent price, and plenty of little extras. Small, neat, simple, effective. Those expecting big, modern, flashy, opulent won't get it here, and are silly to be looking for that at the Dunhill.

Yeah, I read the most recent review where the guy/girl ripped the place. I understand where he was coming from when he said the rooms were dated. They are. It would be like staying at a "decent" bed in breakfast in a rural area.

Now, with that said. It's clean, the staff is really nice/attentive, and you're not nickled and dimed (ie free internet, free cokes/water in frig, free USA Today under your door, free breakfast). If you can stay at the a more modern place (ie Marriot, Omni, Westin, etc), for the same price, you might want to choose modern over the Dunhill. Sorry Dunhill, but you do need some sprucing up.

This hotel was nothing like the reviews described on this site. The hotel has more of a 'historic' but tired ambiance and I don't find that off-putting but let me continue. Our room (401) was also shabby, greatly in need of a renovation. As one reviewer mentioned it had beige furnishings and wallpaper the pattern looked as if it had been stained by water damage, the carpet is worn. The restroom was fine, again the finishes did not complement each other but it was a decent size and had nice bath products. There was also a very flimsy, small robe. Now all of this fine with me until we get to the bed; the sheets were scratchy, not 100% cotton and the pillows unacceptable. I had a something that resembled the insides of a twenty year old stuffed animal. The nail in the coffin though was the room was reserved for 2 people and we were given a coupon for 1 complimentary breakfast. When we inquired about this we were told this was the standard for weeknights, 2 free breakfasts were provided on the weekends. Seems rather odd. We ate elsewhere. The staff is friendly although not extremely polished. The lobby itself is deserted as were the bar and the restaurant. There is not a valet and coffee in room is also not provided. There is coffee in the lobby. There are so many other good hotels in this part of town at this price point that I will not return here.

Had a business trip, traveling with very picky colleagues who travel a lot. Everyone in my group was so pleased. The staff are great, management is very attentive, and the location cannot be beat.

While close to home for us, our visits always make us feel like we are on a luxurious trip - dining, relaxing at the bar and even staying as a guest. ALL the staff are exceptionally helpful, nice and accommodating. A great place - ALWAYS!

My wife and I spent a night here for her birthday. We upgraded to the nicer room on the top floor, and everything was amazing. They gave us an extra breakfast for free because it was here birthday. The complimentary drinks was nice as well. I fully recommend this place, and would definitely stay here the next time I am in Charlotte. We also ate dinner a block away at Blue which I would highly recommend.

Great Hotel in a really good location in uptown Charlotte.
The Staff is really friendly with a nothing is too much trouble attitude.

We booked a Deluxe room and had a Rollaway bed brought in. This was all done without any fuss, and fitted without any problems at all.

Room Overview: Overall a high standard, really comfy bed/bedding, good choice of TV channels, good shower, and decent sized soft towels.

Thanks to all at The Dunhill for a great weekend stay!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Decades before The Dunhill Hotel would open, local architect Louis Asbury Sr. was entranced by the great Italian craftsmen who created cathedrals famous for their soaring, elegant roof lines. Today, The Dunhill Hotel stands distinct on the Charlotte skyline, an amalgam of American, British, and Italian influences, something those with an eye for period detail can detect. Opened in 1929 as the Mayfair Manor apartment hotel, with half of its original 100 rooms permanent residences, today's Dunhill Hotel is a thoughtful evolution. A full restoration was recently completed, and various on-going aesthetic improvements all share a common goal--to celebrate the original vision of Mr. Asbury, with a nod to the needs of the modern traveler. ... more   less
