“Long Lines for Many Rides”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

Carowinds has some fun and thrilling rides, but the lines for them can be very long. It appeared to us that efficiency could be improved, both with process (load a ride while another "vehicle" is moving) or training (operators seemed lazy and slow at times, chatting with each other rather than working to move people in and out). One has to buy a fast pass to enjoy the day, and then it's very expensive.

“One of the best Amusement Parks in the South”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

We love living in Charlotte, NC and having a large amusement in the area fits us perfectly. Carowinds gives you fun, games and rides for the whole family. It has great roller coasters, a swim park and other rides to keep you interested while walking throughout the park. If I had any argument, it is the long lines. Most amusement parks have upgraded to include rides that run simultaneously or one right after the other. Unfortunately, that is one drawback of the amusement park. The only other issue is that everything has a cost. You pay for parking, entrance into the park, food, rides and souvenirs at a premium. This can be a challenge for the average family. Outside of this, we attend at least once a year and I will even consider buying season passes next year.

“Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy defines the effects of this cocktail as " similar to having your brains smashed in by a slice of lemon wrapped round a large gold brick."

I found Carowinds rides to have a similar effect; however judging by the number of teenagers there they all seem to enjoy this kind of thing tremendously. However for anyone on the more grown up side of 25 then take a tip from Dr Who and "Let somebody elses chaperone your kids."

“Be aware of the temps.”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

While it's a great adventure park with rides for all ages, including a wave pool and a couple HUGE roller-coasters be aware of what the temps and humidity can do to you. There's a lot of black pavement reflecting back the heat and getting overheated can be dangerous. Drink lots of water, wear light colored clothing, a hat and sunscreen. Take breaks out of the sun.

The older roller-coaster (Thunder Road) is a wood roller-coaster dating back to the 50s-60s. It's fast and noisy, not smooth and sleek like the new ones. It will snap your head painfully if you're not ready for the turns. If you have upper back or neck issues I would not recommend it. Take the smooth new rides that don't jerk your head.

The wave pool is very nice, with a lifeguard and lots of shallow areas for children. The lounge chairs around the pool fill up fast and don't vacate quickly. There are several lounges under the trees.

Buying food and drink can add a lot of money to your day so plan accordingly.
