Enjoyed having our dog with us (we had to remind the staff about the bed & bowls) but Had a bad experience with the CIAA folks in the lobby but the Westin couldn't help that issue. Had a GREAT nights sleep!

Room Tip: A large grassy field for walking your dog about a block away - be on the lookout for broken glass and chicken bones

Overall, this is a fairly solid hotel. The decor is modern; the hotel is clean; and the staff was helpful. My room had nice views (albeit of an interstate) and the hotel is close to everything in downtown Charlotte. Nothing great, but nothing bad, so all in all, I'd recommend it, but don't expect to be wow'd.

The Westin advertises their location as across the street from the convention center. Technically that is true, but the entrance to the center is one long block away and uphill. I requested the highest floor possible and got 7 out of 25, and what's worse our room was right above construction on the Westin's entrance. Hammering began at 8 AM. If this is how they treat SPG members (yes, we identified ourselves) then where do they put non-members? The rooms and lobby are very dated. We also had problems with the AC and the refrigerator, but I won't even go into that. We stayed for 3 nights and were ready to leave. If I return for another meeting, I will look elsewhere for lodging. If there was a 2.5 star rating, I would have selected that.

Room Tip: Demand highest floor and be sure that there is no construction.

Fantastic hotel and location!
I got a great deal by searching Hotwire for 4star hotels in downtown charlotte!
Only negative was $20 for parking and no free wifi. Pool and fitness center were great! Never did find an outdoor area pictured in photos but it may have been accessed via pool entrance which closed before I got back. Great hotel location if you're there for convention center or nascar hall of fame.

I had the opportunity to spend 5 days at the Westin in Charlotte with my wife when I was there on business. It took us three rooms to finally get a decent one. In the first room, the bathtub was 1/4 full of water due to a continuous, fairly fast drip from a leaking shower faucet. This had obviously been going on for a while, because the drain was rusted. Two steps into room #2 it was obvious whoever had previously used this supposedly non-smoking room had been smoking like a chimney, it absolutely reeked. On our second return to the front desk, the person apologized and offered us 500 Starwood points....which does us no good since we aren't Starwood preferred members....and won't become ones after this experience. No offer of a room upgrade, a free meal, even a free drink. BTW these first two rooms were on the side of the hotel by the freeway and would have subjected us to constant freeway noise. Finally, room #3 worked. We had asked for a king bed in our reservation (made several months in advance), and ended up with two queens, but by then we just wanted a room. The hotel just seemed run down, the hallway and room carpet was worn. They had a nice gym, but it could have been better. They had a ton of room and could have easily had more machines, both aerobic and weight. They didn't have any elliptical trainers without the arms that moved, and no step-masters. The workout towels were washclothes....I'm not exaggerating for effect, they were literally washclothes. Finally on the day we were checking out, they got some real workout towels in there. Overall, it was a disappointing experience, we expected more from a Westin hotel

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the uptown side of the hotel.
