Great place for a walk and to take the kids. The lake in the middle is great with the ducks. The playground is really big and nice for the kids.

Beautiful scenery, lots of people about having fun. Just a really nice park to walk around. There's a museum about halfway into the park from either side, a must see.

The pond is the centerpiece with trails leading to and from it very functional for a walk of anywhere from 3- 8 miles.

Let's face it, Charlotte's uptown or downtown is filled with plazas, hidden fountains and lovely flowers and trees. This particular plaza has some nice fountains.
But it is all of the area that attracted us and drew us back again and again. There is a wonderful fountain sort of to the side and behind the Methodist church. A mother bear and her cubs welcome you.
There is the Green, with the Catholic church. A quiet and hidden meditation garden is there for the finding. Neat poems on metal draped here and there, a fun walk with bee buzzing sounds when you walk by bees engraved in the sidewalk. There is a little area of statuary furniture. Another walkway makes water sounds as you stroll by.
The plaza by the Mimosa Restaurant has tables and benches, and a fountain with statues of children playing in the water.
There was so much to see and do.
I didn't take time for the historical walk, but did read some of the plaques.
Enjoy the town, by bus or train. It is definitely a place to get out and see by foot.
Independence Square is just a start.

We go to the Freedom in the Park festival every year! Love it! This park is beautiful but the playground area is not very shaded. CMS ASEP uses this park for an important training class. We often visit the park when we visit the nature museum.
