I didn't stay at the hotel, but I did experience great customer service. I'm a meeting planner and had an event there where the hotel hosted a lunch for other meeting planners. While you can expect a hotel to showcase itself to an audience like this, you don't always know about the customer service that goes on behind the scenes.

From planning, to execution to follow-up the hotel staff was top notch (5 star)! I would recommend that others book their events at this property if they are looking to impress their audience. The food was stellar too.

We wewe going to start and end our trip to North & South Carolina by flying into & out of Raleigh/Durham. I arranged to fly home from Charlotte so that we could stay at "The Ballantyne" and my wife & I were not disappointed. Valet parking is included in your hotel stay and was very quick when we needed our vehicle. Every staff we had contact with was very friendly and accommodating and went out of their way to make your stay a great one. Do yourself a favour and plan to have at least one dinner in the hotel dining room. It was one of the best dining experiences we have ever enjoyed. We made reservations ahead of time and it made our interaction with our waiter even better because he addressed us by name and took the time to talk to us about the hotel and what was available to us during our stay. There is an 18 hole golf course right on the property and although it looked great from our room, it was raining a bit and we didn't get to play a round. Make no mistake, there will be a next time for us because we will be returning to The Ballyntyne. Simply stated, one of the finest hotels that I've ever stayed in. I would actually rate this hotel as 6 Stars if I could.Well done Ballyntyne.

We recently (Nov.2011) celebrated our daughters wedding at the Lodge. It was a great day of celebrating and the Lodge did a great job of being on top of everything. Everything was setup and served right on time. The food was great, the cake was beautiful and delicious (I want more cake!). Our coordinator, Alli Hall, was on top of everything and even helped out with all our personal touches we wanted. I would highly recommend both the Lodge and Alli!

We stayed at the Ballantyne Resort for two nights recently and we had a great time. From the moment we pulled up everything was great. The valet was awesome. Check-in was a breeze. I assume since I am a Starwood preferred member we were upgraded to a room with a balcony that was very nice. The room was spacious and perfectly appointed. The bed was so comfortable I literally slept for 9 hours (which is unheard of for me). We ordered room service several times and every time it was prepared perfectly. We also used the indoor pool and hot tub and found them both to be well maintained.

A couple of minor complaints: This is an expensive resort, I felt a little "nickel and dimed" by being charged for internet. However, I have this complaint often...why is internet at the Four Points Sheraton or Hampton Inn complimentary but at a Sheraton or Hilton it is not...annoying!

The balcony could have been a little cleaner of dead bugs. I understand that this is the south but a few too many dead bugs for my liking.

At night for turn-down service they swapped our robes out and my friend left her cell phone in the pocket of the robe. It took a couple calls to the front desk that night when we noticed and also in the morning, but we were pleasantly surprised when we heard a knock at the door at 9 am to deliver the cell phone...very happy!

Overall, a beautiful and relaxing stay. Not close to downtown Charlotte, there was plenty of shopping and restaurants in the area. I would recommend people to stay here.

Room Tip: Only a few rooms per floor have a balcony, I would get a balcony room facing the golf course.
