Quality Inn Chapel Hill
Ranked #15 of 18 Hotels in Chapel Hill

This is an interesting hotel. It has 2 stories with exterior hallways. Some would call it a motel instead of a hotel although it's surrounded by trees and grass so it does not feel like a Motel 6. The staff is better than the average - far better. The staff is the reason why you might want to consider staying here. Parking is easy, interstate access is easy and it's an easy drive to Chapel Hill. You can't walk to the campus from here but other than the carolina Inn you can't walk from any hotel (and depending on where you are going you might not want to walk from the Carolina Inn). The only downside I saw was that the hotel caters to groups - as in 2 buses pulled up while I was there with a bunch of high school kids visiting. That means a lot of chaos. It also means a severe hit on internet access. I found the hotel's internet access was completely overwhelmed because every kid had a laptop. However, if you have an air-card that won't be a problem. The hotel is a little isolated in that you will need to drive anywhere you want to go - but there really isn't a perfect hotel in CH. Bottom line for me is that if this is a bargain price I would stay here. If not, I'd stay at the Homewood Suites in CH or at the Carolina Inn if I wanted to be closer to campus.

Staff from many different countries, and I love the diversity. However, they can barely understand what you're saying, and then proceed to blow you off. Comfortable, clean bed and carpet. Only 9 channels available on television. To get more channels, you have to use the playstation controller attached to the TV. HVAC wall unit very old and had no automatic setting, so you either burn up or freeze. I was a little tired and didn't feel like taking the hour drive back home. I've stayed there twice, trying to give it the benefit of doubt the second time. I won't stay there again. But it's ok if you're dropping through town unexpectedly or need somewhere to stay fast, and you won't be in the room long. Also, 1st floor is always full and doesn't have an elevator to second floor. Not good for the money. You can book the Sheraton right across the street for the same price and much better amenities! I only stayed because it was free, due to the honors points I racked up staying in Hilton family hotels across the states.

PS
Don't even try putting do not disturb on the door; the cleaning service ignores this every time I stay there, and end up walking in on me and my girlfriend trying to relax. And you can hear everything going on outside since it is a motel style property.

This hotel is an old motel. I am not fond of staying at hotels that connect to the outside. The room was OK and small. I was not unhappy staying there because it was only 1 night. Front desk staff was very professional.

To be blunt, I would not have stayed there if it were longer than 1 night

The excellent staff make the best of this fairly mediocre facility. The place is set up motel-style with outside entrances -- the main disadvantage of this for me was that every time I opened the door mosquitos would fly into my room. But the rooms were clean and the area was quiet. It's an easy walk not just to some restaurants, as other reviewers have noted, but also to Trader Joe's. The best part of this hotel is the staff. They are very knowledgeable, pleasant, and courteous.

We stayed over on a Wednesday night for a UNC campus visit. I have stayed in many Hampton Inn properties and this one is not typical of my experience. Room was dark, not especially clean, toilet unflushed(!), and no elevator to 2nd floor. The heater/ac unit reflects a personal pet peeve - rather than a setting to constantly run the fan with the compressor kicking in as needed, the unit shuts down and starts up noisily and thereby disrupting sleep. The night was topped off with unruly, drunken troglodytes arriving in the room next door to ours after midnight. A sleepless end to an otherwise nice trip.

My fiance and I stayed here while we were in town for a UNC basketball game. We picked this hotel due to the price and it's location to Franklin St. It is a short 5 min drive to the UNC campus but not within walking distance. The king size beds were extremely comfortable and the whole room was very clean. I used their gym which consisted of a treadmill, bike, and elliptical. Treadmill worked great.

I would stay here again and recommend it to a friend. There is a nice sports bar around the corner called Bailey's if looking for lunch/dinner.

What you would expect, motel style.

Rooms were comfortable, particularly bed & pillow. Bathroom was ordinary, but clean. However, room was quite dark.

Staff were incredibly friendly, helpful and accommodating. They greeted you by name.

Breakfast was good, with good selection. Every afternoon there were warm chocolate chip cookies!

Nice surroundings and quiet location.

Note, it is a little hard to find; make sure you get directions from hotel (not internet).

Would definitely recommend.
