From pulling up to the bell boy to departing for home, my experience was top-level. If you're a Tar Heel, stay here, it's your duty. If you are an out-of-towner, stay here. If you are driving North of South on 1-95, take the 45 minutes to visit, dine and relax. You won't be disappointed.

My family and I enjoyed the Carolina Inn's hospitality overnight during the UNC Pro Alum game. We had looked forward to both the game and an overnight stay at the Inn--and were not disappointed in either. The Inn even sent a courtesy van to pick us up after the game. The staff was friendly and helpful, recommending good barbecue restaurants not far away. What a super weekend!

For the fourth year in a row, we have stayed at The Carolina Inn while moving our daughter back into UNC at Chapel Hill. The Carolina Inn is centrally located on the edge of the campus and therefore within walking distance of the city's major attractions and restaurants. The main reason we stay there every time is the old world elegance, grace, and peacefulness of the property.
Chapel Hill is a smaller town with a large campus plopped right in the middle of it. Parking is very limited, but the Inn has ample spaces for its guests. With all of the students, the city tends to be a very busy place. So if you want some respite, The Carolina Inn is an a cocoon of peace in a hectic world.
If you value gracious service, lovely appointments, very comfortable rooms with great bedding, a four-star restaurant and a classic afternoon tea, then look no further. Check in and rejuvenate!

What a wonderful respite! We were able to enjoy the excitement of a college town as well as the history and then retreat to this haven; a totally quiet, cool room with a beautiful view for a uninterrupted night's sleep followed by a delicious, complete breakfast the next morning. It's everything you always wish for in a getaway trip.

I spent one night with my 17 year old daughter at the Carolina Inn while whe was touring and doing an admissions information session at UNC. Wow, I wish I had been able to stay another night to just enjoy the Inn. We had a room in the historic section and it was so beautiful and tastefull. The front desk staff at check-in made me feel like a VIP. The beds were as comfortable as a Westin and that is saying something! The lobby was pure southern gracefullness. We ordered room service breakfast and it was fabulous, everything cooked just as requested and we had more than one special request noted on the room service order.

Don't pay any attention to the naysayers on here, GO TO THE CAROLINA INN and enjoy.

The Carolina Inn's appeal is its extraordinarily good location, literally on the campus of UNC-Chapel Hill. For any visit to the campus for either leisure or business, the Inn is a wonderful home base. The restaurants and nightlife of Franklin Street are only one block away. Park your car and enjoy the town as a college student would.

The sense of history is palpable. The halls are lined with memorabilia from the Inn's long and storied history. Great for history buffs and UNC alumni and families.

As a hotel, however, the Carolina Inn is not particularly exceptional. Not bad by any means, but the rooms and the facility in general are nothing terribly special. The rooms, in particular, are a letdown considering this is a Mobil 4-star hotel. They are reminiscent of a Sheraton ca. 1998... undistinguished materials, no flat screen TV, uninteresting decor. The small, plain bathrooms are definitely in need of an upgrade, not up to par for today's expectations. You'll find more luxurious bathrooms in a typical Holiday Inn Express. The beds, however, are very comfortable.

The service is very good, and there's an acclaimed restaurant on site.

As a hotel, it's a solid 3-star... as an experience and starting point for a memorable trip, it can't be beat.

Note: if you win this hotel on Priceline, you will most likely be given a "historic queen" room. They are literally the size of a closet... with no window. Totally unacceptable! They upgraded me for $20 to a very nice, spacious standard room, but if there is no availability, Priceline bidders risk being stuck with the historic queen. Buyer beware.
