By far one of the best icons of southern cooking in the south. Best in warmer months when you can enjoy outdoor dining and reap the benefits of seasonal cooking....Honeysuckle ice cream...yum. Shrimp n' Grits are legendary but don't steer away from some of the nightly fare that is always superb. Whole fish in paper, best fried oysters on the planet and oh...nothing wrong with the cold fried chicken dinner.

Went there with my son who is attending UNC @ CH, for lunch and to try the Shrimp and Grits. At first we couldn't find the place, then saw a line of people lined up outside the restaurant. Looked up and saw the "Pig" sign. Parked the car, thank God (often do) we had reservations, a must. Service was excellent as was the food. Will go again! RR

This restaurant prides itself in cooking fresh ingredients and serving southern dishes. Unfortunately the dishes are very heavy. Butter and cream are used liberally and several dishes contain fried food. Last time I was there I decided not to eat a main course because I could not face so much fat and meat. The drinks are very good and, if you avoid the dressings, the salads are acceptable. Not good for vegetarians or those who are worried about cholesterol and blood suger.

Excellent food, wonderful friendly service, delightful deserts. Shrimp & Grits were complex, nothing like your average breakfast side dish! Husband says Fried Oysters were best he's ever had and that's saying a lot since its a regular dish for us on the Tx Gulf coast. Friend's Pork steak with cheese was very tasty. Be sure to call for a reservation as it's a small seating area especially in winter when the patio is closed. But most definitely worth the effort. Would go again in a heartbeat!
