“Good but, wow the price”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 8, 2013

The food here is outstanding. The food is somewhat expensive, but portions are large. This is not a place for children under 14. Cocktails are very good. Expect to pay for 4 anywhere from 120 - to 200 dollars including cocktails. It is one of favorite places. Make sure you call for a reservation as it might be hard to get in.

“A must see”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 14, 2013

Crook's Corner has been around since I went to UNC Chapel Hill in the 1980's. I am back in 2013, and it has not changed one bit. From the quirky wood-carved pigs and other animals outside, to the bamboo courtyard outside the little bistro on the corner of Carrboro and Chapel Hill border; this place will blow your mind. It is like a taking a trip without leaving the farm, if you know what I mean. You might think that you are going to bubba's barbecue joint, but then you read the menu. Blackened Prime Ribs, Gourmet Salads, the works, served by waiters in formal attire. You get the idea. It is nutty crunchy meets elite liberal southern democrat on shrooms and red wine.

“Overrated”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 8, 2013

Have lived in this area for 10 years and have always heard about Crooks. Finally went last week and was pretty disappointed. Expected more atmosphere - small inside - loud. The hostess and staff were not very friendly - didn't seem to value my business at all. The food is just average - can get better food in other places in Chapel Hill. Had the burger - dried out meat, dried bun - no flavor. Others at the table had the shrimp and grits - said it was okay, but like what you get anywhere else. Someone else had 'cheese pork' - which was awful - we all tasted it and agreed - all breading and a weird gloppy sauce on it. Have no desire to go back for any occasion and wouldn't recommend it. Think the history of good chefs there is the draw.

“Get there early for Sunday brunch.....”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 24, 2013

Fortunately we had reservations, but on Sundays when Crook's Corner opens for brunch there is a line waiting outside. I think you would get in right at 10:30 (when they open) without a reservations, but why risk it. My daughter and her family (with two small children) took me there for my birthday. I had the Eggs New Bern, which were delicious. The only thing I would suggest would be to serve it on a warm biscuit (it was cold). My son-in-law had pancakes, my daughter had the Hoppin' John (eggs with beans and rice), and the little kids had biscuits, eggs, and bacon. Also, we were there at on a very cold weekend and we were seated near the front, so each time the door opened I got a blast of brisk air. I guess most of the time that wouldn't be an issue. Nonetheless the place was very nice, and the patio area looked like a fun option for better weather. I would love to go back there to try their dinner.

“Delicious!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 22, 2013

First time at Crook's and will be back. My friend and I enjoyed the shrimp and grits, the sweet potato tamale appetizer and house salads. Our waitress was great, not intrusive but perceptive. The inside is tiny and somewhat noisy. It was a little too warm inside, but not unbearable.
