After several recommendations by friends, we were very anxious to give Squids a try! Our party of 4 adults arrived at about 8:40 on a Saturday night to find a 70% full dining room. Encouraging to see so many diners well after the dinner hour! Menu options were all 15 - 20% above what should be expected in a seafood restaurant of this type. No problem so far, we're expecting this to be great! Menu choices were artsy, no real options for getting the seafood you want with the side dishes you want, everything carefully choreographed by a designer chef that was more interested in unique pairings of exotic garnishes and flavor combinations than what a real seafood lover cared about. Excuse the expression, but I feel the menu would really appeal to the yuppie crowd. Don't go to Squids expecting hearty family style style seafood, don't even expect up scale seafood dining . . . instead expect artsy presentation of average quality seafood, served in what tries to pass as 'fine dining'. Honestly, our group felt that there was more emphasis on presentation than on content. How was the service? Our waitress seemed to lose interest in our group, presumably because the couple beside us was basking in the fine wines and lobster . . .

One of the best for a very long time.
Hushpuppies, followed by grilled shrimp, then mudpie = fantastic! ~the crab cakes are really good too :)

After suffering through some of the worst service at an earlier part of our trip, we didn't have much hope for Squid’s. It was a last ditch effort on a long road trip to grab a quick bite of something (hopefully) good and did we ever luck out!
We walked in and were seated immediately! Within seconds a server came by and brought us water and took a drink order. A minute or so after that, Jennifer, the most pleasant waitress ever, came by with amazing hushpuppies and took our food order.
The food came out fast, fresh, amazingly good and was an incredible value. We even finished off with a dessert and joked with Jennifer, “Now if we only had some chocolate sauce for those hushpuppies, this would be perfect”. A minute later Jennifer reappeared with hot chocolate sauce for dippin!
As we left we were waiting for the bartender to see if they had a matchbook to take with and the manager, noticed that we were standing around waiting, broke away from his conversation with another patron and asked if we were OK and if we needed to speak with him!
THANK YOU SQUIDS and THANK YOU JENNIFER!!!
