Food: OK+. Like several meals in Chapel Hill on this trip, the food was adequate, but entirely unexciting. Bland, of you will. But the place was very pretty, the service good, and the next-door Southern Seasons made for a great morning outing!

Great food with unique spins on all the classic dishes. The BLT was great(very filling) on grain bread with fried green tomatoes seasoned to perfection with nice hardy pieces of bacon with Bibb lettuce. The sweet potatoes fries were awesome( not too salty). The sweet tea is the best. Every time we go the tea is properly brewed and not watered down. On another occasion I ordered the mushroom quiche and the portion was also plenty!

The irony of this restaurant is that there are the most delicious foods from all over the world in the attached gourmet store. The deli, coffees and teas, and wonderful bakery are right outside the doors that lead to Weathervane. The food, when Southern Season was at its' previous location, and after the move, was some of the best in an area where there are numerous others that rate highly in restaurant ratings. Over time the offerings have become skimpy but pricey and fairly mundane. The service is more often snotty than warm and friendly as it once was. We used to bring out-of-town visitors, lunch with friends, special occasions with our family. It's not that place anymore.

Weathervane is a great restaurant with very good, southern style food with a modern twist. For example, a simple bacon, lettuce & tomato sandwich (BLT) is spruced up to gourmet status with fried green tomatoes and sweet potato fries. The only downside to my visit was the service. It was spotty -- our waiter was never to be found. Indeed we sat for 20 minutes before anyone showed up the first time. He also got a few of the orders wrong including bringing me a single espresso when I ordered a double and telling me two tablespoons of coffee was their double. I imagine that he was simply wrong. Other tables around us (with different waiters) seemed to have much more prompt service so it was likely an individual staff problem. Despite the staff, it was a great lunch.

We went to this restaurant for the fried green tomatoes and for 8 bucks they were disgusting. They gave you three fried green/yellow tomatoes covered in a herb cream cheese that was gross. They were over breaded and under cooked. We also ordered the "hand" patteyed hamburger for 12 dollars that was definitely frozen. The service was decent but it took them almost 10 minutes to get us our drinks. If you are looking for a pretentious place to have a weekend brunch with subpar food this is your place. In my opinion save your money and go to Elmos or Ye Old Waffle Shop.
