Description: Il Palio is an intimate restaurant located in the Siena Hotel. We strive to emulate the best of the great Italian tradition of hospitality and quality at the table and in the glass. Our vision is simple - use the best local and Italian ingredients as purely as possible and serve them with comfort and pride. We cook as an Italian might in North Carolina.

I was expecting outlandish prices from this top-rated restaurant and was surprised that the cost were not that high ($25-32 for entrees). It's more than I like to spend, but it's manageable for a special meal. And the food was incredible.

My husband, son, daughter-in-law, and I dined here on a Saturday night in the fall. What an outstanding meal we had! The only fault that I can find is that several of the things we wanted had sold out (the pork osso buco special, and the veal and fois gras agnolotti). That being said, our food was delicious. We started with oysters on the half shell and the salmon cured with grappa and served with ricotta and caviar. Wow! We had small portions of tagliatelle al tartufo, pappardelle with bolognese, and tagliarinni with pesto and sausage. Again, all were delicious. For entrees, we had rack of lamb (my husband and I shared one order. There were 6 ribs.), and scallops. Everything was impeccably done with lovely, fresh ingredients. We finished with gelato and vin santo.our service was very nice, and the sommelier was very helpful. Il Palio has a very good wine list. We had an Albarino with our seafood and an Amarone with our pasta and meats. Service was well paced. We arrived at 8:00 and left at 10:30. Dinner was about 425 dollars--expensive, but reasonable, considering our meal.

We have been staying at the Siena and dining at Il Palio for 10 years. Il Palio is absolutely the best restaurant in the Research Triangle area. Executive Chef Adam Rose and his staff make every meal at Il Palio a completely unique experience. The ever changing menu and fresh local ingredients make this restaurant worth going over and over again. We were stationed in Italy and Il Palio is on a par with the best restaurants we dined at. If you are looking for fine dining, in a relaxed atmosphere, with unparalleled customer service - Il Palio is for you.

While staying at the Siena Hotel in Chapel Hill (during the school-year on a week-day), my husband and I discovered a gustatory treasure which reminded us of our trips to Tuscany. Not only did the chefs successfully create a truly traditional menu selection, but they used locally sourced (thus, fresh) foods! Heavenly! The wait staff was ever-congenial, even when a wine choice appeared to be less than expected on our 1st evening, and made us want to return again! Dining al fresco the 2nd evening, was divine, as the weather couldn't have been better, and the traffic in front of the hotel was minimal. (This would be an issue on a Carolina Football Wk-End, I believe.) And again, the food and service was impeccable. Our third trip to Il Palio was for a light breakfast on the morning of our departure, and as expected, we were not disappointed! From daily-made pastas, to fresh and ingenious salads, to uniquely prepared meats, we two 'foodies' were in heaven...no, better, in 'Italy'!

They couldn't accommodate us (5) in the restaurant - it was late when we arrived and they were busy. The staff went out of their way to set up a table in the lobby. Amazing!
The pasta dishes where very tasty and the watermelon salad was special. Skip the soup.
