saffron recently had a name change ( same owners ) to Raaga --to prevent any confusion with the Saffron restaurant in Cary.
had dinner with visiting canadian friends last night.
enjoyed a perfectly chilled beer waiting for them while my wife had a french malbec glass of wine.
upscale decor very well done. comfortable seating and attentive service set the stage for a superb meal for an indian ( who rarely ventures out to indian restaurants ) and his companions!
appetizers were succulent ,moist kebabs with perfectly balanced spices.
requested the chef to make us specials off the menu --he hade us tandoori salmon and a shrimp curry dish. extremely unusual for most indian restaurants ( who overcook seafood to a tasteless mess! ), this place cooked the seafood to perfection in sauces that were distinctly different from each other ( a welcome sign of a chef who knows his spices ). the supporting cast for dinner was a lentil dish, saag paneer and chicken tikka masala ( this dish has been cooked to death all over the world!) ---all very well done. the chef's interpretation of chicken tikka masala was refreshing from the usual preparation of this dish.
dessert was an unusual fig kulfi ice cream that we also liked.
enjoyed ourselves so much that we found ourselves the last patrons at 11 30pm. were not rushed or even given subtle signals by the staff to leave. our apologies to them for our oversight!
this place is definitely going to be on favorite restaurant list and i highly recommend this place for those who appreciate quality cuisine.
