saffron recently had a name change ( same owners ) to Raaga --to prevent any confusion with the Saffron restaurant in Cary.
had dinner with visiting canadian friends last night.
enjoyed a perfectly chilled beer waiting for them while my wife had a french malbec glass of wine.
upscale decor very well done. comfortable seating and attentive service set the stage for a superb meal for an indian ( who rarely ventures out to indian restaurants ) and his companions!
appetizers were succulent ,moist kebabs with perfectly balanced spices.
requested the chef to make us specials off the menu --he hade us tandoori salmon and a shrimp curry dish. extremely unusual for most indian restaurants ( who overcook seafood to a tasteless mess! ), this place cooked the seafood to perfection in sauces that were distinctly different from each other ( a welcome sign of a chef who knows his spices ). the supporting cast for dinner was a lentil dish, saag paneer and chicken tikka masala ( this dish has been cooked to death all over the world!) ---all very well done. the chef's interpretation of chicken tikka masala was refreshing from the usual preparation of this dish.
dessert was an unusual fig kulfi ice cream that we also liked.
enjoyed ourselves so much that we found ourselves the last patrons at 11 30pm. were not rushed or even given subtle signals by the staff to leave. our apologies to them for our oversight!
this place is definitely going to be on favorite restaurant list and i highly recommend this place for those who appreciate quality cuisine.

Sat at the bar solo for dinner while in town and had a glass of wine and a couple beers. Good wine by the glass selection and strong beer for a restaurant list. Food was exceptional. Had a version of tandori chicken that was really nice and way beyond the norm.

This is not your typical buffet joint. It has a nice bar, diverse crowd and super friendly staff. I want to bring my wife here just to introduce her to the owner. Pj (the owner) was great. You can tell he loves the people side of this biz. I stayed longer and ate slower enjoying his company. His wife was very nice, as well. Isn't this what business is about - hospitality and fun and conversation. Good great and great conversation. See you again

The Raaga restaurant in Chapel Hill is a class above the rest. The food is excellent, the ambience is elegant and charming, the wine collection is good and matches the Indian cuisine. We had a wonderful time celebrating an important milestone and the owners were very gracious and the staff was very attentive. The chicken tika masala is a favorite as is began pesanda.

While visiting my son in Chapel Hill, we decided to try Saffron (now named Raaga); my son had heard good things about it. We called about 6:00 p.m. on a Saturday and had no problem making a dinner reservation for later the same night. From the moment we walked in, we could not have had a better experience. The food was outstanding. The wait staff were attentive without hovering. I asked to see a wine menu and the waiter ended up bringing me a glass of wine not usually sold by the glass but he thought I would like it. We will definitely return!

Had my birthday dinner here 3/24/13. Saffron has taken a new name - Raaga. I'm not why the name change. It was our first visit to this restaurant and we are not aficionados of Indian food but wanted a new taste experience. The waitress was very good and managed the kitchen. She was very knowledgeable despite not being Indian herself. She helped describe some of the preparations and spices to us with ease. We found the food very delicious. The interior was nicely decorated with two-person tables lining the outer edges of the room and a large table in the middle under an elaborate gazebo type structure. The small tables were a bit close together and this became an issue when a couple who reeked of cigarettes sat next to us. The husband was also loud and boorish. Service was a bit slow but we were there at 7pm so it was pretty full. The wine we selected was very nice but quite expensive at $11/glass. All in all we had a nice time. We loved the food but not the price.
