“Serene chapel on a mountain top”

Numerous weddings are held at this lovely place. Our son and his wife had theirs here years ago. The view is awe inspiring! Open air chapel so it is somewhat open to the elements.

“Pretty Place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 13, 2012

The official name is Fred W. Symmes Chapel but everyone calls it "Pretty Place." The name speaks for itself. People get married here. The view of the valley below is amazing. I think it is part of a YMCA camp and it's easily accessible by car. Breathtaking and secluded.

You park and walk into the Chapel and suddenly realize that you are gazing over the side of a cliff. The crisp mountain air and breathtaking views are truly amazing. You don't want to miss this site!

“Incredibly Beautiful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 20, 2011

Symmes Chapel off US 276 at Cedar Mtn, NC is a quiet, serene place of beauty that is breath taking. This is actually a YMCA summer camp but the outdoor chapel can be used a worship venue (perfect for sunrise services) or it can be used for weddings. Because of this reason, they do suggest you call ahead of time to make sure the chapel isnt reserved for one of this events. If you are a picture taker like I am, you will love this place. The view from standing outside the door of the chapel with the beautiful cross that overlooks the Blue Ridge Mountains makes for one beautiful image! Inside of the rock walls of the chapel are plagues every where with a different scripture on it and each plague is in memory of someone. It tells who at the bottom of each scriptured plague. Take time to read them, they are really neat.
My teenage daughter stated she would LOVE to have her youth group come here to this camp in the summer. If you walk around the place which has been dubbed "Pretty Place" , you'll see the camp has a small little waterfall, a fairly large swimming lake for the campers, with a zipline across the lake and a slide also. Just a very neat place if you enjoy those kind of places.
