The Golden Sands is a really nice motel located ocean-side at Carolina Beach, NC. Check-in was fast, everyone was very friendly. When we got to our room and used the bathroom in flushing the toilet it wouldn't flush. So I called the front desk and within 5 minutes help was knocking at the door. Great service, fresh towels everyday. The room was really nice with a nautical theme and a beautiful view of the beach and ocean. If you stay at Golden Sands be sure to ask for the 3rd floor up for the beautiful view. They have everything, an indoor pool that goes from 3-ft. to 4-ft. for the kids and an outdoor pool, which is more for adults, with a wooden walkway as great access to the beach, and they have a training room/workout room. What you see on their website is what you get, except for the beds. They even have a restaurant and Tiki Bar. We didn't eat at the restaurant because it didn't look that great and was over priced and to get to the bar you have to go through the restaurant. The Tiki Bar was located on a pier that extended out towards the ocean, which was really nice except the pier was narrow and moving towards the front of the pier and back was difficult. My only complaint would be the BEDS, oh, my gosh, the most horrible beds. We got no sleep the first night, maybe an hour. We felt awful the next day, exhausted, didn't do to much that day. The next night we slept some from pure exhaustion and when we woke up my husband said, "Oh my aching back, it feels like someone has beat me in my back with a baseball bat." I felt really tired too and my back was sore as well, and the same thing the next night. It felt like you were sleeping on plywood, the mattress was super firm and extremely uncomfortable. If you do not rest well and get the required sleep then you really can't have a good time because you don't fell well, and I don't know that I will stay there again simply because of the beds. I didn't complain until we were checking out because it would have done no good, they were not going to change the beds for us. We stayed July 4th weekend for three nights and it cost $680.58 for two adults, which was a little over priced. Overall on a scale from 1 to 10, I give Golden Sands a 4-5 because of the beds. They really need to change those mattresses. ("Average Joe Critics" S.B. Iglesias)

Great location, great motel, great staff. Everything from check-in to housekeeping was great. This was our first trip to Carolina Beach. Loved the pools. Staff was very friendly. Other guest we encountered in the halls, etc., were friendly. Can't say enough good things about our stay. Already making plans for next year. Same place!

We had the divided room-great for teenagers very comfortable beds love having the sofa in the room and 2 TVs the outdoor pool closes at dusk-would have been better for the teens if it were open until about 10pm would stay there again

This place was located on a great beach. We got a very nice, off season rate on a 2 bedroom beach front room. The stunning sunrise was worth getting up for every morning... WOW! The hotel restaurant was excellent! Right down the street was Grannies Country Kitchen, where we ate lots of primo country "vittles". Would go back to both.

This hotel is very very clean, even the lobby area was mopped and cleaned so much you could barely tell you were at the beach. It was nice. Rooms were good size with good size countertop in bathroom for all your stuff. I agree with last review, sink drains a little slow but that was only negative except for outdoor pool is not the greatest because its small and enclosed with a cement wall, not very inviting. The indoor pool is a good size and nicer. We stayed in room 720 on top floor in newer building which we like with great view. The beds are ok. Beach access is easy with 2 different ways to go and parking is really good so you can drop off your chairs etc in your trunk on the way in. We had burgers and frys for 10 bucks a piece at Ocean grill which tasted good. My husband fished underneath the pier/tiki bar and caught several fish and thinks its an excellent fishing spot but you can not fish from their pier. The shower station when you come back from beach is better at new bldg then the one over by older building. We have stayed in both buildings but we prefer the new one but older one has view of pool. If traffic is backed up when you go to dinner take a left out of hotel and eat on the Kure end of beach you can get down there alot quicker while the new amusement park would at the other end. We ate a Jack Mackerals and man do they give alot. My husband is a big eater and he even said we should of split a plate they gave us a ton of shrimp and we did see others splitting plates. Service was good at Golden Sands we had a light bulb up and they fixed it asap. Just be careful with your keys -do not keep them near your cell phone because they deactivate and you have to get them reset, happend to us a few times. We were here memorial weekend and like this beach because its not crowded like Myrtle and its not dead. This beach is perfect for couples. We feel sorry for the Marriott because it used to be nice until they built this amusement park so close to it it looks like the rides are touching the hotel and right at their pool which use to be really nice. If you want loud stay there but if you want a more peaceful stay we would choose this motel. There is a little ice cream and burger type place you can walk to across the street its red and white and there is Grannys but that place is good food but hole in the wall on the inside. There was a couch in this room also with our 2 queen beds and a small table and small fridge which you can fit 2 liters in if you turn on side but easier for cans and bottled drinks. The hotel was very quiet at night and well kept. Tiki bar shut down around 11 or 12. We have stayed at Marriott , Atlantic Towers and Oceaneer (that one is awful) and this is the best. The easy access and easy elevators made it all more enjoyable not congested waiting in lines to get on elevator or anything like that. One last tip - try not to park to close to building stay in the middle cause they have alot of birds they tend to hang out and you may be making a trip to car wash if you know what I mean.

Room Tip: Pier restaurant at Kure is a good diner food

This was our 2nd stay at Golden Sands. The last one was in 2008.

If you are a family on a budget looking for a clean oceanfront place to stay, this is it. Is it the fanciest motel in the world ?No. Is it the most luxurious ? No. If you are expecting the Ritz, you will be disappointed. We stayed in the newer building this time, which has all interior corridors, which we liked better than the exterior corridors on the older building. Check in was smooth and so was check out.

No major isssues with the room except that the sink drained slow and there was a gap in the wall at the top of the shower in one spot that could have easily been fixed with some caulk. These were only asthetic issues. The a/c, mini fridge, microwave all worked great. The free wi-fi was awesome and there was a very good selection of channels to watch on tv.

We felt safe ...you have to have a key card to enter the building and also to enter the indoor pool area / lobby bathrooms.

A lot of the other hotels at Carolina Beach are old/run down. This is a nice place to stay and it's cheaper than Marriott and much cheaper than renting a beach house.

Golden Sands is about 5 minutes from the Kure Beach pier, Fort Fisher Aquarium/Museum, and Southport Ferry. Granny's Kitchen (delicious) and Pop's walk up style restaurant (delicious) are within walking distance across the street.

We did not eat at the Ocean Grill on the premises but we did have amaretto sours from the Tiki Hut which were very good.
