“wonderful, relaxing, romantic getaway!”
Reviewed November 10, 2009

This was our third stay at Mountain Springs Cabins. We had such wonderful memories of our other stays that we chose to celebrate our 20th anniversary back here and were definitely pleased that we did. We only wondered why we had waited so long! It was very hard to leave the beauty and serenity of the area. The cabin itself was very clean, cozy and romantic. It was the same one we had stayed in on our first visit, yet definitely did not seem to be 20+ years old. We loved be able to view the gas fileplace from the comfortable bed. The towels were thick and plush - perfect for after the jacuzzi. The grounds themselves are so pretty and restful. We enjoyed sitting and having a glass of wine by the stream, while watching the the ducks swimming and foraging for food. There are horses and chickens on the property across the stream and a cat on the cabin grounds who loves attention. Far from being bothersome, they just add to the experience.

The cabins are removed from the bustle of Ashville, yet are close enough to be convenient to most of the sights and hiking trails. We already knew that cabins are quite close to a back entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway and a nearby waterfall enroute. Restaurants and two grocery stores are a short distance away. Kate (proprietor) cheerfully shares her knowledge of the area . Books, movies, coolers are available to borrow and popcorn is free. Bonfires stream-side (subject to the area's burning bans) can be arranged. If children are not content to wade in the stream or explore the grounds, there is an open area with some play equipment for them. There is no cleaning fee. You are just asked to leave the kitchen counters clean and the dishes put away - common curtesy, I would think,

If you want a simple, nice place to relax in or to come 'home' to, this is the place.

I have made more than seven visits to Mountain Springs Cabins since 2000 and have enjoyed them all tremendously. My family came across the cabins by chance and we have returned whenever possible since, traveling from Raleigh and Charlotte. The cabins are furnished with antiques and are all extremely clean (I’m a self-proclaimed neat freak and have never found an issue, which says a lot). Each cabin has kitchen basics that you might need, such as cups, saucers, plates, silverware, coffee maker, toaster, fridge, oven, etc. Be sure to pick up supplies on your way in if possible because you won’t want to leave! The grounds are beautiful, secluded, well maintained, and the river that runs along the property is always relaxing. My favorite time is during autumn, when the air is crisp and you can see the fall colors in the surrounding hills. Excellent time to make use of the fireplace and have mornings on your deck with coffee, listening to the water.

If you can bring yourself to leave the grounds, it’s an excellent starting place for a day trip to any number of places in and around Asheville. Of course, everything in Asheville is a very short drive away, including Biltmore Estate, Biltmore Village, Grove Park Inn (Sunday brunch is great! Ask for a seat next to the floor-to-ceiling windows), downtown restaurants and shopping, etc. Some of my favorites have been Biltmore Estate, especially when decorated for Christmas or in the spring when flowers are in bloom. Kate, the manager, can provide you with information about where the nearest fall color is peaking, and has helped us a couple of years get to the best destinations for foliage. She’s also pointed us to other great destinations for day trips, such as Jonesborough, TN (great shopping, a few shops for kids, and a couple of great restaurants-this all after a very nice drive), Cherokee, Chimney Rock (awesome views!), the list goes on. If you’re at a loss of what to do (even after reading the packet of info that comes with the cabin), just ask Kate-she’s got a lot of information about the local area and is always happy to help. You can also get videos and games from the office if you’ve forgotten anything at home!

If our family is unable to make it up for Thanksgiving (one of our favorite things to do), I try to make it up with a friend or two for a weekend away. I try to always go at least once per year and have never been disappointed. A wonderful place to get away!

We had a wonderful, relaxing visit to Mtn. Springs. It is such a nice place if you are looking for some time away from the normal routine. The cabin was cozy. We enjoyed walking around and enjoying the grounds. My husband enjoyed fishing at the stream while I relaxed in the hammock with a book. We can't wait to go back!

Stayed here in May, as lodging closer to downtown is considerably more expensive. This place has a comfortable, farm-like feeling that you won't find closer to the major attractions of Asheville. We enjoyed the cats that roam the property and really felt blessed to have the opportunity to sit quietly on large rocks down by the stream in the evening and have a few drinks under the stars. The stream water is ice cold, and as the sun goes down in the evening, the large river rocks hold incredible warmth which makes for a cozy setting. The property manager was more than accommodating and gives sound advice about getting around in the nearby towns. These cabins are suited to nature-lovers and antique-lovers alike. If you like that old-time, pioneer feeling, you'll enjoy it here. If you prefer more posh and contemporary accommodations within walking distance to downtown, this may not be the spot for you. Also, if you enjoy spending evenings indoors watching TV and surfing the web, this is not the place for you. There was wi-fi on the hilltop by the office, but that's not the point of staying at these cabins. This is a "BBQ, sit-on-the-front-porch, read-a-book on the swing, pick-fruit at random, daydream in the grass" kind of country place. It's a bit of a drive to the major attractions or good food, but a great value for the price. My only advice is to bring a couple of your own towels, as you may want/prefer more towels or different towels than are provided. Overall, the place feels like home and is a great stress-reliever. I don't have children, but I could see this as being the perfect place for kids of all ages! Lots of space to run wild, explore nature and just be an active kid! Also, this place is VERY KIND AND WELCOMING TO PETS. Your pet will love it here!!!!!!!!!

This was our second time we have had our family reunion at Mountain Springs Cabins and beside the beauty, it is equiped for all ages. We stay a week at a time for our reunions. There is between 30-35 of us, of all ages and gender and we just love the place. The staff treats you like family and knocks themselves out to help you have a wonderful time. The grounds are magnificent, cabins are white glove clean, well kept and comfortable, everything in working order and plenty of things to pass your time away right there on the grounds. You are so close to nature and God's beauty is all around you. The location of Mountain Springs Cabins puts you in the heart of the mountains, close to the Blue Ridge Parkway and easy to get to anything you would want to do while you are there. This is the best little secret you would want to find out about. We have already got out dates for our 3rd reunion with Kate and the wonderful staff at Mountain Springs Cabins, you just can't resist going back once you have been there.

We stayed with our family and wedding party at Mountain Springs Cabins for our destination wedding in Asheville. It was the perfect place for all of us! The cabins are close to one another, which makes it convenient for a group of people, but each cabin still has its own privacy as well. We felt like we could be with our family and friends as much as we wanted, while stealing private little moments away for just the two of us. Each cabin is charming and comfortable, and the grounds are just beautiful! I loved waking up to a morning rain shower hitting the tin roof of our cabin on our wedding day...luckily it cleared up for a beautiful afternoon. The cabins are close to Asheville to make exploring the town convenient, and they are close to the Blue Ridge Parkway to make scenic excursions easy as well. The little kids had a great time playing on the grounds and in the creek, and the adults enjoyed all the relaxing scenery. I am definitely glad we stayed there!
