We were being hosted by friends from SC to go to Beck's "original" Calabash Seafood Restaurant while we were on vacation in Myrtle Beach. We drove up to find nothing but an empty "slab" due to the fire 2 months earlier unknown to us. Instead, we happened down to Dockside and we were glad we did! It was a busy Saturday night Dec.29th and we thought we'd be waiting awhile since there were 8 of us. Lucky for us, there was 1 table left set perfectly for 8. We had hush puppies til we could no longer bark! The food was very good and our server was friendly and efficient. We enjoyed the experience and would like to visit again during the day to see the boats come in and out on the river.

We lunched at the Dockside in March 2012, ordering hushpuppies and chowder. We'd never had hushpuppies before, so i don't know how they compare, but I'll order them again if I'm ever craving a deep fried dough ball. I thought the chowder was pretty good, and the price was reasonable. Best thing about it was the view from the deck, where the fishing boats and marsh birds are plentiful. Loved the pelicans. But I probably won't be back soon, given the number of alternatives in the area.

We had Calabash fried shrimp. Calabash is a style of breading that is lighter than normal. It was ok but nothing special. The clam chowder tasted like it came from a can. The highlight were the hush puppies.

Dockside offers an excellent variety of mostly fried seafood and very good hush puppies. However, like most restaurants in Calabash, the foods are fried in lard, not vegetable oil. Prices are lower than in Myrtle Beach and serving sizes are adequate. The restaurant is located at the edge of an inlet with a few fishing boats moored at the dock which creates a very pleasant view if you're luck enough to get a table window. If you are there during the summer months, go early (4pm) to avoid the long lines.

This is a nice restaurant that can accommodate larger groups. Our family was recently there for dinner with almost everyone ordering something different. The food was all well prepared and the portions are more than adequate, I love the hush puppies. The prices are quite reasonable and we would definitely recommend this restaurant serving families for decades.
