“A Great Beach B&B!”
Reviewed August 14, 2011

My wife and I spent three days at the Hatteras B&B and had a great time. We’ll definitely be back. Jed and Virginia are warm, friendly and accommodating. We arrived around noon to just park at the B&B and go to the beach (about a 2 min walk) figuring we'd check in around 4 or 5. Jed said our room was ready, checked us in and we were off to the beach. The room was very nice and the breakfast each morning was excellent. The B&B is well kept and very comfortable from the second story deck to the inside sitting areas. Virginia had great restaurant recommendations and Buxton is a nice beach town that we thoroughly enjoyed. A great place to decompress.....we look forward to our next stay.

We certainly got more than we expected. The room was lovely-cool too! That was particularly exciting since the outside temperatures ran in the 100s. Besides, it had everyting we needed including a small fridge in the bathroom that we put to good use chilling some southern sweet tea. The location is great- about a block to the beach and a mile to the lighthouse.
Virginia and Jed, the couple who run the b&b are warm. welcoming and full of good suggestions for food. Speaking of food, Virginia is an amazing cook. Each day we had the difficult task of choosing our breakfast from eggs with scrumptious cheese grits and thick bacon or sausage, home made granola with fruit, two or three different types of quiche (such as asparagus and goat cheese, broccoli with chedder, spinach with -I can't remember) and then a special such as peppers stuffed with sausage (beautiful for viewing and eating) crepes with apple and brie, and corned beef with potatoes (prettin in another way.) Not easy to choose amongst these. Best to just have stayed longer.
Virginia also baked every afternoon-cookies and cakes-including some coconut cookies that were the best I've ever eaten. She and Jed have only been running the b&b since the beginning of this season. Hopefully they will stay a long time. They made our stay exceptional.

We spent 2 nights in July 2011 in this B&B. Our room was comfortable, clean, well equiped. The breakfast menu is incredibly tempting and the two breakfast we took there were really excellent. The young couple managing the B&B is very welcoming, friendly, nice.
We were so sorry to be leaving! But we had to pursue our journey...
Do not hesitate, choose Cape Hatteras B&B!!!!

We travelled with kids and appreciated the proximity to the beach, the free use of beach equipment and bikes and wonderful breakfast. The only negative was the air conditioning which blew from the wall straight onto the bed. At night, it had to be turned off only to be turned back on sometime later when we go too hot. A simple solution would be to move the position of the bed. Jed and Virginia were friendly and warm and I would recommend this for families travelling with kids although the space (especially the toilet and shower area) is a bit cramped.

We just returned from a wonderful stay and can't wait to plan another trip. Innkeepers Jed and Virginia make you feel like you are staying with friends. Their warm welcome, advice and suggestions about restaurants and things to do were great! The breakfasts were amazing! We really appreciated getting to choose what time you wanted to have breakfast each day--whether it be a sleep-in lazy morning or a get up and go early one. Our room was very comfortable and clean, with a good-sized small refrigerator with a freezer, microwave--. There are bikes, small coolers and boogie boards to use as well which were an added bonus. The sundeck was wonderful for stargazing with a constant breeze and not a single mosquito during our 5 night stay. The location is perfect. Just a short walk to a beautiful, uncrowded beach, restaurants, stores, mini golf and ice cream shop--also a short drive to many local attractions. We fell in love with Buxton and the Outer Banks. Thanks Jed and Virginia for a wonderful and relaxing vacation! We will be back. Tammy and Ken

As I sit here at home, sipping on my morning coffee, with my view of the West Virginia hills bordering the Ohio River, I reflect upon my vacation in Buxton the last 6 days. Virginia & Jed were like a brother & sister to my wife & I. Our room, Emily, was Super clean and very appealing. Our breakfast selections were out of this World, especially the "special of the day", and above all the care along with their sincere interest in giving us advise, especially on local restaurants was way beyond what was expected, The cookies Virginia made were always ready when we arrived back from the beach and Jed made the plants bordering the building look like something out of a a gardening magazine. The beaches were the best we've experienced on the Atlantic & Gulf Coast! Time will only tell when we can return but I hope it will be soon. Virginia & Jed we miss you already!! 5 STAR ALL THE WAY!!!! Thanks, Bob & Deb

The Cape Hatteras Bed and Breakfast is a serious find of an inn on the Outer Banks in North Carolina.
Run by a young couple, Jed and Virginia, who are only in their third month as innkeepers, the B&B is a former beach motel located in Buxton.
When we first drove up, we were a bit concerned because it still does have that beach motel look to it.
Once we saw our room, however, we were completely won over. The room was large with a king-sized bed, a bathroom with a shower, a small fridge and freezer, and a great balcony on which to sit. The room is spotlessly clean; Virginia assured us that they wash the comforters and all covers between guests, which is something that not all hotels or inns do. The bed was comfortable and it was quiet at night, which was lovely. The beach was a 3 minute walk down the street and the main drag was another 3 minutes the other direction.
The main area alloted to guests was well-appointed and neat, with games, books, and a large TV. Breakfast was a choice of four items: yogurt, granola, and fruit; a standard eggs, meat, and grits southern breakfast; the quiche of the day; or whatever their special of the day was. The first morning I enjoyed two crepes with apples and brie, in an sweet apple-vinegar reduction. It was excellent and the portion was very large. The second morning I had an open faced sandwich of fried egg, bacon, avocado, spinach, and tomato on a thick fried piece of bread, appointed with balsamic vinegar. It was delicious but impossible to eat neatly, so I recommended that they perhaps consider a sharp knife to go with it if they serve it again (it was the first time for that particular dish). The coffee and juice were great, and during the day they put out treats for the guests that were excellent as well.
The only small issue we had was the wifi was inaccessible from our room, so we had to move to the common room to use our netbook. That being said, it's been common in almost all of the inns we've stayed at so far this trip.
Overall, the value, cleanliness, and location were all excellent. I don't often with to come back to a place I've visited, simply because there are so many other places I want to see, but I would not hesitate to come back here and would, in fact, stay longer next time. Thank you Jed and Virginia for a wonderful stay!
