Our visit was on a Wednesday night in October. I will certainly acknowledge the place was busy, BUT. It took over twenty minutes for our waitress to "appear" out of the kitchen to take our drink order. Only her four tables were sitting there unattended while the other waitresses were scurrying around. Since we waited so long to order our drinks, we went ahead and ordered our meal as well. Ten minutes later, out pops our appetizers, but no drinks. It took another ten minutes to find her and ask for our drinks. By that time our food arrived. We requested a refill on the tea and asked for cocktail sauce to go with our meal. Refill never came and we had to borrow sauces from a table next to us. Food was good, but cold...goes with the slow service. To make matters more aggravating, a woman with the tag "manager", walked past us several times as we were sitting there staring into space, then sat down to eat her own meal and then went outside to chat with friends. Maybe she was off for the night, but a word of advice, if you are, take off your manager name tag!

Ate um.... six meals here during a week-long stay, including Thanksgiving dinner. The seafood is perfect. Fresh, flavorful, and PLENTY of it! Ambience is typical Outer Banks Time Warp: nautical theme, floors slope in all directions, and the waiting area includes the obligatory touristy junk shop, with a twist: much of the stuff for sale here is actually interesting and NOT mass-produced in China! Service was fantastic; wait staff is very diverse, and each person shared bits of his or her story- they comprise a veritable all-star cast of personalities. The peanut butter pie literally made me weep: it was so pretty that I felt compelled to just KEEP it, yet so delicious that it took all my will not to order a second helping.... until the next evening. I've eaten seafood on three continents, paid a lot more for a lot worse, and have enjoyed none of it as much as I enjoyed Diamond Shoals.

Very pleased with all the food - excellent home made tarter sauce made everything just a little bit better... Had the salmon and the blue fish. Both were excellent. Didn't have dessert but they looked great. Best Sweet Potatoe fries I've ever had - not skinny shoestring style but full french fry size. Very casual - on the way to Hatteras and Ocracoke.

Had dinner and breakfast at Diamond Shoals. Dinner menu more than adequate and prices commensurate with other restaurants in area. Service excellent; server was attentive, knowledgeable and accommodating. One diner requested crabmeat panned in butter in place of crabcakes on shrimp-crabcake platter; server said she'd check with chef and immediately returned with approval. Food, from crabcakes to scallops to side dishes, were all excellent. At breakfast following day, menu and service also good, but scrambled eggs weren't done quite as ordered and biscuits were disappointing, slightly doughy. Overall, breakfast might rate a 4 instead of 5.
