We stayed at this hotel and the view of the ocean and beech were totally awesome. For the price you couldn't ask for a better value. The rooms were very clean - furnishings a little out dated but in very good condition.

We were absolutely amazed by the beauty of the view and the fact we could drop a rock from our rooms deck into the water @ high tide! Everyone was so very friendly, just the total mindset of the people on the island was totally different from most tourist type areas! They watch out for one another, for example, my daughter was getting married and we were leaving to run to the store when a gentleman on a bike flagged us down and ask if we were having a wedding which we said yes and he told us that we had someone broke down on the beach! It wasn't anyone with us so he continued going down the beach asking everyone if they were with them just to get them help that sums up how friendly they are there!!!Everyone needs to go here once in their life at least!!!

Room Tip: Oceanside is where you want to be, they are nice and the view is awe inspiring!!!!

I stayed hear for a night in late February and the weather was cool but sunny. Not much open on Hatteras this time of year but that also means there were few tourist.

I stayed on the oceanside and high tide came right up to the pylons of the building. You don't get any better ocean front then that! This place is in danger of disappearing into the Atlantic some check out before next hurricane season.

The rooms were large, clean, and comfortable. Microwave and fridge provided for the budget traveler. The very friendly hosts were helpful and obviously passionate about their business and the island.

Highly recommended!

Forget room service and a fancy lobby - that's not what we want on a vacation. I don't want to pay for a bunch of stuff I won't ever use so I love this Motel. We stayed here on a last minute idea to spend Thanksgiving at the beach in 2008. My husband and his buddy had stayed here for a surfing trip the previous winter so we decided to use it for our family trip. We stayed in the townhouse on the beach side and loved it. Full kitchen allowed us to cook full thanksgiving dinner and having bedrooms on a lower floor helped so the kids got good sleep. View of the ocean out the living room was fabulous. And we enjoyed meeting the other guests while hanging out on the large deck space that runs the length of the building. The beds were comfortable and decor simple but clean and nice. Our friend and his family who came with us stayed in the oceanfront suite a few doors down. Their Suite did smell a little fishy at first (quick spray of air freshener fixed that and smell didn't come back) but I understand since this is a favorite place of fisherman to stay. And it is super close to the Hatteras Lighthouse. Great place to eat nearby is Diamond Shoals Restaurant as well as the Motel is not far from lighthouse Sports Bar - a great pool hall. Good value, great location and very friendly staff!! We are heading back in May 2013 later this year.

Room Tip: Sound side is nice too but go for ocean front. Not much more in price and the views are great! And i...

Stay at the CHM every fall for my annual fishing trip, and have absolutely nothing to complain about. Typically stay in the soundside apartments, and have spent a summer week in an oceanfront room as well. Customer service is ALWAYS great, and I actually look forward to dealing with Dave and his crew at the CHM. Being from Ohio it is rare to speak to people whom are generally polite and respectful, and the staff at the CHM is nothing short of just that. You're not going to find over-the-top luxurious 10-star Manhattan rooms with your own private butler here. You will however find an AUTHENTIC beachfront/soundside facility, with AUTHENTIC folks running the place. The only reason I would even NOT consider staying at the CHM is if it wasn't there any more. I don't even "shop around" anymore to find a place to stay. There's just no reason too...

Room Tip: Be good to Dave, and he'll be good to you...

I happened upon this hotel during an emergency trip to the OBX. We first checked into a hotel that used to be a Comfort Inn and was ANYTHING except that. It was grimey. So the next morning I contacted the owner of this property assuming that an oceanfront townhouse (2 bed, 2 bath, full living room and full kitchen) would be far more expensive than we were prepared to spend. Shockingly their off-season price was $115 so it was just over $55 for my father and I to split per night. It was very comfortable and the owner was exceptionally kind to us. It was wonderful to have a place directly on the beach so we could sit in a rocker on the balcony and relax after a long day.

The cons: Hurricane Sandy took it's toll on the entire island so there were a few repairs that still needed attention such as the dirt/sand on the windows looking out to the ocean. One of the sliding glass doors must have suffered some type of break to the air pocket between the panes of glass because it was permenantly hazy and the door itself was sticking very bad and the screen was torn badly. BUT... we knew full well of the recent storm and cut them some slack. I spent .89 on a bottle of window cleaner and wiped the windows down. No big deal.

I would stay here again and again.
