Description: Rusty’s Surf & Turf brings the bold flavors of the tropics to Hatteras Island. Owner Rusty Midgett left the island and honed his Restaurant and kitchen skills in some of Philadelphia’s best restaurants with top chefs in the industry. He is inspired in the kitchen by the places he has traveled on surf trips and by his training in classic French and Italian restaurants. Let him surprise you with creative yet simple preparations. Offerings on the menu include fresh fish, shellfish, all natural chicken, pork, steaks, and pasta in styles ranging from local to global, all served in a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. Chef Rusty and his team have the sources and knowledge to turn all of these dishes into mouthwatering creations that will please the whole family. The restaurant is fun and colorful with an ever changing local art collection. Rusty’s has a full bar featuring craft cocktails and craft beer.

Had a relaxing and delicious dinner at Rudy's. The calamari was great and the swordfish was spectacular. Grilled to perfection.

Very cool place with very fast service. You get hush puppies with your meal and when you finish them they just keep bringing more to you. The servings were large and everything was cooked as ordered. I had fried shrimp, red potatoes and vegetables. Everything was great especially the shrimp, large and tasty. The staff were friendly and helpful as well. Prices a little steep but not too bad. It's worth a stop!

Our party consisted of two adults and 5 teenagers who were staying nearby for summer vacation. Our waitress was very attentive and the food was good. I had the Pamlico Platter (broiled seafood sampler) which was good. My wife had broiled scallops, which she enjoyed. Sides that were good included the collared greens, hush puppies and sweet potato fries. 4 of the children ordered the fish tacos (made with Mahi Mahi) and enjoyed them. Absolut and Bombay Martinis ordered before dinner were good and reasonably priced. I recommend Rusty's for anyone looking for good food and good service.

When you go you must try the flash fried oysters! Absolutely phenomenal! Another patron at our B&B suggested them and I'm very happy I tried them. We didn't have any problems with our order but the table beside us did. Manager did absolutely right in the situation apologized and offered free desert. They obviously care about their business. Also gotta try the fish tacos, best I've ever tasted!

We've been vacationing in the Outer Banks (usually staying in Avon or Buxton) for years now and I've always been underwhelmed by the restaurants. They are good, but nothing like some of the fine dining that my husband and I are used to in California. Except now.

Rusty's offers fine dining in the laid-back, friendly setting that we've grown to love in the Outer Banks. It really is the best of both worlds. The service was friendly and fast and the restaurant is clean, spacious, and updated. But the food is what really shines. The hushpuppies are easily the best on the island and the fish tacos were incredibly fresh and delicious (and this is coming from someone who isn't normally a fish fan). The rest of our party all agreed that the food was definitely a step above the rest of the meals we had that week and we won't hesitate to return.

Tip: if you can manage, come right at 5pm so you won't have to wait. We had a group of 9 and they were able to seat us right away.
