Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is one of the best I’ve seen on the East Coast. There is no fee unless you decided to go inside and take the stairs to the top. There is a small gift shop and museum. It’s interesting to see the old light house location as well as how they moved it to the current spot. This year the kids participated in a Junior National Seashore Ranger program where they complete a booklet as well as a few activities and earn a ranger badge. They were also able to get trading cards with Island history from the rangers throughout the area.

The trip to the top is a long journey but definitely worth it. Once at the top you can see for miles in all directions. Defiantly the best observation point on the Outer Banks. There was a fee to climb the lighthouse however it was very reasonable.

We have visited the Outer Banks for over 50 years. The one thing that never changes is a visit to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Beach access here is good for all ages. The visitor center gives history and information on the lighthouse and it's function over the years. Dogs can wait outside in a nice shaded area with a family member. There is a fee to climb the stairs to the top.

We did not climb this lighthouse, but certainly enjoyed it from the outside. You can climb for a fee, and it is the equivalent of a 12-story building. I imagine the view would be amazing.

There was a pretty nice museum in the old house that you can visit for free, and it had maritime artifacts (lots of WWII) and showed some films about moving the lighthouse. There was also a nice gift shop and restrooms.

I will go back again when it's a bit cooler and climb to the top of this majestic old building!

The lighthouse was great fun. My mom and I made the hike to the top of it and the view was breathtaking even if the inside of the lighthouse was 98 degrees. Everyone was very friendly but what I was most impressed with was how helpful the park rangers were with my father. He has a bone disease and uses a wheelchair to get around so he obviously couldn't get to the top of the lighthouse but several rangers were quick to inform him that if he was physically able he could climb the few stairs at the base and stand at the bottom of the lighthouse free of charge. This was unfortunately not possible because of his condition so they instead recommended a special video they had on hand in the museum that offers visitors with mobility issues a chance to go up to the top. We followed their advice and asked for the movie and the ranger inside was more than happy to oblige. And it was well worth it!! The video was incredibly detailed so that viewers would see everything that those walking to the top saw along with additional facts that you don't learn on the walk up. The additional facts were really interesting and almost worth the watch even if you can walk to the top. Overall a great experience made even better by the fact my dad wasn't left out.
