My wife and I had heard about this course for years. When we found ourselves in the vicinity we thought we would play it. The course is fine. It can't compare to the private clubs in the mts, but it will keep you attentive. The back nine is the better of the two. What sets this course apart is the setting. It is pretty special and the views of the surrounding mountains are worth the greens fee. If you are in the area it is worth stopping off to play.

A terrific golf course with fantastic views of Mount Mitchell. The course is in very good condition. This year it is challenged with the excessive rain the area is getting making for some areas to be extremely wet. Despite this, it is still a great course to play while in the Asheville area. While it has a few holes with some elevation changes, the majority of the holes are in the valley with the Toe River either crossing fairways and rumbling along side them. Plenty of variety and challenges will be found at the course. It continues to be a favorite of us whenever we are in the Asheville. Just note it is a Cart Path only course so be prepared for a lot of walking and a longer round of golf. Overall a terrific golf course - a hidden gem!

Other than the beauty of this golf coarse,it has nothing else going for it.Greens that are like shag carpet they are so slow.Terribly maintained,no driving range,no restrooms,no chipping area,no where close to being the nicest coarse in the area....over priced...over rated....

My wife have the good fortune to travel the backroads of the US and play a variety of public and private courses. We really enjoyed our round at Mt Mitchell. This was there opening weekend for spring play, April 6th, and the weather was perfect. We chose to walk and price was $35.00 each. The greens were arrified and sanded 5 days prier, but that is the case with most of the courses in this area. At the time we made our tee time we were advised of that and encouraged to wait a week or so. We decided to give it a go anyway. We loved it. Beautiful setting, very wakable for late 50 early 60 yr olds. A river runs throughout the course and it made the walking that much more enjoyable.
The landing areas are wide, each teeing area has an accurate depiction of the whole and yardages are on most sprinkler heads.
It is a very fair test of golf. The fairways were in great shape for this time of year. It was just one of those courses that made you feel like you were going to play a good round when you got on the first teee.It is a cart path only course, which was not a problem for us. The practice putting green is a generous size and typical of the greens on the course. There is no driving range.
The eating area was not open until May, so cannot comment on that. Barry and Dean, who run the pro shop were very personable and helpful, giving us a good history of the course and making us feel right at home. Having been in the golf business over the past 30 years, it was exciting to be on a course that was privately held and open to the public, with reasonable rates, friendly staff and to be in such good condition. We will be back

Gorgeous views right in the middle of the mountains and a challenging game of golf. Spectacular views and a great golf course make this one of a kind experience a must for any golfer.
