“BBQ & Brews Train”
Reviewed June 29, 2013

I rode the 1st trip of GSMR's new BBQ & Brews train solo last Saturday night and had a wonderful time. The food was really good and was served quickly and efficiently so we could get down to the business of drinking the great beer and dancing and enjoying the evening. It was a very nice way to spend a couple of hours on Saturday evening; Several people actually said they wished it could have been just a little longer trip. The musicians were great; train staff A1 and brewery staff from Nantahala friendly and knowledgeable.
Hubby and I are riding tonight to sample Hinzelmannchen beer (Sylva brewery).

“A fun way to spend the afternoon”
Reviewed June 27, 2013

This was nice and relaxing. The views were really pretty, but you need to know that what you see heading to Nantahala is the same scenery you will see coming back. The train doesn't turn around, so unless you have empty seats across from you to switch to, you will not get to see all. We sat in the open air pergola, which was great since it was just the right temp to enjoy it. They served lunch, and drinks (if you wanted them) and a nice desert. Overall it was an enjoyable day. Don't sit too close to where the engine is coming or going, the fumes can be pretty strong. Lake Fontana is absolutely gorgeous, lots of photo opps.

“The most miserable & expensive 5 hours of my life”
Reviewed June 25, 2013

Took the Tuckasegee River Excursion from Bryson City to Dillsboro N.C. & by the time we were halfway through the first stretch we were praying for a taxi service in Dillsboro so we would not have to endure the mysery of riding all the way back to Bryson City, no such luck though. We had to see the same weeds, dirt banks, trashy RV parks & trailer houses that we saw on the way down. We did get to see the back side of a junk yard. OH, and lets not forget the skinny guy that had his tongue down the throat of some big chick covered with tattoos & wearing a thong in the yard of one of the shacks. That was actually the most interesting part of the whole day. In hindsight we should have bought the picture they took of our group on the train because no joke there was a picture of a run down shack in the background.

“Best birthday excursion..”
Reviewed June 20, 2013

My husband surprised me with a train ride in the first class car with lunch included. Our service with Nicholas was amazing. He was very efficient, knowledgeable about the sights and kept us all laughing during the entire trip. My husband and I had grilled salmon and beef tips for lunch, both dishes included mashed potatoes that were superb! There were also two musicians that performed a couple bluegrass songs during our trip which made the ride that much more enjoyable. A+ for their rendition of "Happy Birthday" :D
