Not worth the price!! I called to book our tickets over the phone, requesting morning and was given afternoon. Had to pay more for the ride due to thier error in booking. There is not a guide who tells you the history of the area or where you are traveling through. A couple of hours into the trip the engine is moved to the other end of the train so you now spend the next couple of hours traveling the same path you just traveled.

We took our 2 and 3 year old boys on this train with pretty low expectations. Wow - were we shocked. We sat in family first class with the lunch option. The service was impeccable (my son still talks about Ashley, our host). The food was quite good. There are lots of drink options (including a good bar) and constant entertainment (again still talking about “the banjo man”). We even received great goodies to bring home (bags, cups, hats, etc.) that remind of us this wonderful day. While the tickets may seem pricey, it is worth it! We are now eagerly planning a trip on The Polar Express..

You have several choices of the types and prices of cars to ride in. We had a group of 8 seated side by side. It was a nice sunny warm fall day. The train moves along at a very leasurely pace so that you have ample time to view the sites. There were wild animals along the route, deer and turkeys. The train passes over a very old trestle across a lake. There are views of cliffs and the tracks run alongside a river too which had many people tubing on the day we went. Towards the end of the ride before the train turns around the train makes about an hour stop at a point where the tracks intersect with a section of Hwy 64. There are two restaurants at this location. We walked across the bridge to the inside restaurant. The time was long enough for us to order a full meal. I have not taken the train in the direction of Dillsboro, but friends of mine that have taken the train in the Dillsboro direction said it was not scenic except of a view of a train wreck used for a movie. The ride was worth the price and I would repeat it again.

This is my second trip-but first on the eastern train. I love trains, so there's nothing bad I could say. The train museum has a really great model railroad and several hundred trains that are also for sale.
