Lands Creek Log Cabins

We stayed with the Fronrath family at Lands Creek at the end of July. We planned our daughter's wedding at one of their amazing cabins and several family members also rented cabins at Lands Creek. Our daughter's wedding reception was held at "The Lodge" cabin and I cannot imagine a more incredible experience, or a more perfect location. The Lodge held the 90 plus guests comfortably for a buffet dinner, bouquet & garter toss, etc.. Since our return home our daughter has asked if she can re-do her wedding, but change absolutely NOTHING from the day. I cannot fail to also mention the personal attention that the Fronrath family showered on us to make this day absolutely perfect for all of us. In addition! The several family members who also rented cabins have raved to us about the wedding and about the location we chose. We can't wait to return.

Imagine being in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains, in western North Carolina. Imagine that it's near the entrance to Great Smoky Mountains National Park, in an area dotted with majestic mountains, deep-green forests, and hundreds of waterfalls. Imagine waking up every morning in an authentic - and magnificently-appointed - log cabin, right in the middle of a mountain, with a stream running right underneath your cabin (which is on stilts). Imagine taking a cup of coffee out onto your wraparound deck in the morning and sitting in a hand-carved rocker, while watching the emerging sun burn away the Great "smoky" fog for which these mountains are famous. Imagine returning to that same rocker fifteen hours later, and looking up into a black sky filled with more shining stars than you ever thought possible, while listening to the beautiful sounds of silence. Imagine falling asleep a few minutes later to the sound of a brook bubbling right undernearth your (stilted) cabin.

If you can imagine all of this, you're imagining Land's Creek Log Cabins, in the picturesque town of Bryson City, NC. Owners Robin and Sue Fronrath offer mountain hospitality in a slice of scenic heaven. Their cabins are wonderfully cozy, with fireplaces inside and hot tubs on the deck, surrounded by 100'-high pines and oaks piercing the bluest skies you've ever seen. The cabins are filled with the works of local craftspeople - from homemade quilts and curtains to pottery and blankets and artifacts...yet they have stone countertops and every modern convenience, as well. And there really is a creek - Land's Creek - running through their property and under most of their cabins. At the highest point on the property, you can look across the mountains and valleys clear into Tennessee. And at the bottom of their mountain - down a winding country road past horses and barns - is the charming town of Bryson City, filled with craft shops and interesting eateries and outdoors-outfitters and attractions such as the antique trains of the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad, which will take you through some of the most magnificent scenery east of the Mississippi, and with a calendar filled with great local events such as chili cook-offs and book festivals. Local roads are lined with quaint wooden homes with front porches with rockers and with signs in the front yards advertising everything from "Fresh Boiled Peanuts" to "Homemade Quilts" to "NC Honey." And the area has great climbing and hiking trails (including the Appalachian Trail), kayaking on Fontana Lake, and rafting on the scenic Nantahala River.

We've found that Lands Creek Log Cabins is a wonderful escape, a blood-pressure-lowering piece of paradise in the mountains. You'll find yourself, as we do, dreaming about going back every year (and we actually have gone back!). And we recommend it very, very highly! (www.landscreek.com)

Robin and Sue hosted our company for a large gathering of 50-60 people spanning 15 cabins. Our weekend getaway was absolutely beautiful and the accommodations were perfect. I stayed in Mountain Elk and the cabin was great! Comfy beds, soft (and clean) sheets, hot tub, huge kitchen with everything we could have needed, tvs for the football games, porch swing and wonderful views. Our company reserved Harmony Hall as part of our stay and our trip wouldnt have been the same without it. The kitchen was great for our catered dinner, the porch was perfect for gathering when it rained, and everyone had an amazing time. If you are looking for a peaceful getaway - this is it! We will be back :)

We took a company retreat of 60 people and rented 18 cabins of the 24 cabins and Harmony Hall for the weekend. There are not words to describe the setting for groups wanting a getaway. Harmony Hall was the meeting place and had everything the group needed with TV's (football guys) great furniture, kitchen, large patio (which is were most of group socialized the night away). All the cabins very beaurtiful and very clean. It enable our group to let their hair down and visit- on Saturday we had groups rafting and on the Smokey Train Caboose which from this location was only a short drive away to both. Can't wait to go back!!! Highly recommended.

We stayed in the lodge. This was the most awesome place i have ever stayed in. The living room was beyond being a room. Could not get over the large kitchen. We put two men and four women in there and still room to move. Robin and Sue could not have been more gracious. They let us eat their eggs from their chickensand vegsfrom the garden they planted. this place has a game room,a master bedroom and bathroom that you could get lost in it. We loved the time spent there this time and in 2007. The lodge is beautiful, the creek running in front of the lodge is soothing. I recommend this place highly. Thanks for a relaxing time Robin and Sue

This is a lovely setting, with cabins dotted in the hills with a creek or two running through. Robin and his wife have done an awesome job creating cabin locations that feel isolated even though they have a decent number of cabins on the site. We stayed in two cabins - one was a smaller one that had perfect layout for our 2 parent, 2 kid family. The boys loved their sleeping loft. The second - provided at a reasonable discount to accommodate our evolving schedule - was a full-on house that had great amenities. We enjoyed playing ping pong and horse shoes. Only real down side is that Bryson City is not really super-convenient to the main section of the NP. You can reach a small portion of the NP here - fun tubing on a pretty tame river - but to get into the main park, you're talking about 30 minutes through Cherokee. Still we felt blessed to find such a nice place to stay.

My wife and I, accompanied by our two children, their spouses, and four teenagers, had a great time at Lands Creek and the surrounding area. As many others have commented, Robin and Sue are gracious, helpful people who obviously take pride in the beautiful resort they have created. Our Hawk's View "cabin" was large enough for the twelve of us to eat, sleep, and have fun, but there was always a quiet porch or patio for us, the old folks, to retreat to if we wanted a bit of quiet. The cabin was immaculate and the workmanship exceeded everyone's expectations for a resort property. Did I mention the gorgeous view? Twelve thumbs-up! We'll be back, Robin and Sue.
