“Cozy tree-top doggy cabin”
Reviewed July 20, 2017 for a stay in June 2017

We wanted a hiking, doggy vacation, and Mountain Lure provided a lovely base for our Great Smokys adventure (including a bear sighting!). The cabin is charming, clean and comfortable with a beautiful hillside location. We loved bringing our dogs, the view from the porch, the hot tub, even the slightly scary ride up the road to the cabin.

Thank you for taking the time to review Mountain Lure. We're so glad that you found the cabin to be clean, comfortable, and charming and that you could we accommodate your party and your dogs.

While the Great Smoky Mountains National Park doesn't allow dogs, there are other great places to go hiking like the Nantahala National Forest.

Driving in the mountains can be a different experience if you're not used to it. For all of our cabins we recommending putting your vehicle in a lower gear when climbing and descending steep grades and also to maintain a slow and steady speed.
Mountain Lure Cabin is up a steep, winding, paved road with a gravel driveway leading to the cabin on its secluded hillside.

“Heaven in a mountain setting”
Reviewed October 3, 2015 for a stay in October 2015

The cabin was incredible. My husband and I stayed at the cabin with our daughter, her friend, and my parents. It was clean and exceptionally comfortable. The porch with its beautiful view was a favorite spot to gather. The stocked kitchen made cooking pleasurable, and there was plenty of room to accommodate us. Three generations stayed at the cabin, and each of us thoroughly enjoyed it and the surrounding area. We had an incredible time and keep talking about going back. We can't wait to make the trip again! The cabin rental agency is wonderful and very attentive. An excellent experience!

“Beautiful secluded cabin, Morning coffee on the covered porch is Heaven.”
Reviewed September 15, 2014 for a stay in August 2014

Great house every comfort included. Easy access to all the fun the mountains have to offer. close to lake Fontana. Be sure to park your boat at he bottom of the hill, the drive way to the cabin is far too steep and tight to pull your boat to the cabin.

“Nice cabin>>>won't go back....”

This was the first time going to Fontana Lake/Bryson City area for our annual mountain trip and it is an easy 3 hour drive from Charlotte, NC. We picked up the key from the rental office Thursday afternoon and followed the directions out to the cabin, which is about 20 minutes west of Bryson City towards Fontana Lake. As mentioned previously, the directions to the cabin are not good so we ended up taking a wrong turn and having to call the rental office for help. As expected, cell phone coverage is poor to lousy in the area so the call got cut-off, but we ended up finding the cabin on our own so it was not a big issue. Very nice, new cabin with all the amenities including very good WiFi signal. We were disappointed with the view because of the heavy tree coverage off the front porch. We had rented mountain bikes from Bryson City Bike Rentals so we headed out to the Tsali Recreation Area which was about a 35-40 minute drive away. Just about everything you want to do is at least a 25-30 minute drive from the cabin, not a big deal, but something to consider (we actually kind of enjoyed driving up and down the windy roads!). We had dinner back in Bryson City at Nick & Nathan's Grill which was very good. The next day brought a steady rain for most of the morning so we cancelled our plans to rent a pontoon boat and spend the day on the lake and instead went to the Cooper Creek Trout Pond and had a good time "fishing". Saturday was whitewater rafting with Wildwater Outfitters in the Nantahala Gorge. Unfortunately the cabin lost power about 9 pm Saturday night because of storm in the area and power had not come back on by the time we checked out at noon Sunday. We heard a couple of back-up generators running at other cabins nearby so obviously this has happened before. Recommend the owner install a back-up generator and keep candles on hand in the future.

Thank you for your feedback about Mountain Lure. It is a secluded cabin -- if you're visiting the area again and want a cabin closer to town, please let us know and we can help you find a different property. As a repeat guest you will receive a 10% discount off any of our cabins.

We'll relay your feedback about the directions, the heavy trees, and the suggestion of a generator and candles to the Property Manager. The power outage at the end of your stay impacted approximately 500 homes in the area. Power outages are not extremely common in this area -- typically they only occur during heavy wind storms or ice storms when lines are damaged.
We do keep alternate lighting under the kitchen sinks at all of our cabins.

“Peaceful and Secluded.”
Reviewed July 20, 2014 for a stay in June 2014

We really enjoyed our stay in the cabin. It was everything we expected it to be. We were a party of 8 and didn't feel like we were stumbling over one another. We all especially loved sitting on the front porch every morning and watching the fog lift from the mountains. It was a little more secluded than we anticipated, but it was a great place to stay.

Thank you for taking the time to review Mountain Lure Cabin. We're glad you enjoyed your stay and didn't feel crowded.

Mountain Lure Cabin is in a secluded location -- it's about 25 minutes from town up steep, curvy roads. The mileage isn't that far but with the curvy nature of the roads, it's slow driving.

If Mountain Lure is more secluded than you would like for your next stay, please let us know and we can suggest other properties closer to town.

“Peaceful, relaxing vacation”
Reviewed July 15, 2014 for a stay in June 2014

1st thing, if you have never been to the area, google earth is your friend. Finding the cabin based on the directions given...not good. So do your search before you leave home. The cabin was GREAT. Getting to the cabin can be a challenge. It was motorcycle friendly if you are an experienced rider. The road to the cabin could be a challenge for the novice. Real tight switchback right before the cabin. Great location, takes 15 minutes to get to main road. So you are not in a crowded area, but you are close enough to town to run and get supplies if needed. Get to town before 5pm...the sidewalks are rolled up and put away until the next day..LOL it was a great place, I will go back. I will take more supplies on our next trip. Was disappointed that the wildlife was not prevelant in the area..check out the road to no where...

Thank you for reviewing Mountain Lure Cabin. We appreciate your feedback and will relay it to the Property Manager.

For future guests - we actually do not recommend using Google Earth or other mapping services (even GPSs) to locate cabins. We provide turn by turn directions from the area to the property with mileage since most guests using those services end up lost.

Mountain Lure is located up a steep and winding road, which can be a new experience! If you've not driven roads like this before with cars we recommend putting your vehicle into low gear both going up and down. We also suggest using a slow and steady speed as you drive up, so that you maintain momentum.

The advice about the town rolling up is pretty accurate for this area! Many local boutique shops will close, while restaurants and grocery stores will stay open later. Also there are a few bars in town, that would be open such as the Nantahala Brewery. For more nightlife, Harrahs Cherokee Casino has various restaurants and bars. Cherokee would be about 25-30 minutes from Mountain Lure. This is the quiet side of the Smokys and much more laid back than the Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge areas.

As far as wildlife goes, elk visit the Cherokee entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park on a regular basis. Another spot with frequent wildlife in the National Park would be the Cataloochee Valley area near Waynesville -- this would be about an hour from Mountain Lure. Some of our cabins do have wildlife visit them, such as deer, but please be reminded even in the National Park these are not domesticated animals and they should not be approached!

The "Road To Nowhere" is a scenic drive to the North of Bryson City into an entrance of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It's an incomplete road with a tunnel, and hiking trails. From one of the trails Fontana Lake with mountains in the background is visible.
