I went to Fox Run with a friend of mine. We stayed for 4 nights. It is a beautiful location and the cabin was very clean and had lots of great amenities. The best parts were the hot tub and the sitting on the porch listening to the creek at the edge of the property. The owner, Donnie was extremely nice and helpful. We had to call him/text him to ask about operating the hot tub. It was getting late (9:30), but he didn't seem bothered in the least. We got it going and were able to enjoy it during our stay.
There was plenty of sitting space in the living room and the kitchen was well stocked with equipment. The beds were comfortable. I would suggest, like previous reviewers, that you plan to get there before dark. Also, take a copy of the directions with you, phone service is sketchy in the mountains - Verizon seems to work better than ATT. Get directions from the owner - not sure it would be as easy to find simply using GPS. Also, it is a little remote - far from a store. Not a bad distance, but you don't want to get up there right before dark and realize you should have brought toilet paper up the mountain with you.
Most of the drive is fine, but a little windy, but the last stretch is a narrow ( 1 car width) little gravel road. It was a little scary at first, but we got used to it. Like another reviewer, we never had any problems with having to pass anyone, but it is a possibility. The cabin is remote, but there are a couple of other cabins near by and some farms/homes just down the gravel road - so you don't feel too isolated. There is also wifi and phone service in the cabin. We never watched tv... too busy enjoying nature, but there are 3 tvs with dvd and I believe cable. There is a hike to a waterfall that is enjoyable, I thought it was worth the effort, but it might be a bit steep and treacherous for some. The water fall was very pretty. We also enjoyed picking the blueberries and eating them with our cereal in the morning. I might mention that we made a new friend while we were there - each night a really sweet black speckled dog would come to the back porch and visit with us. He would follow us down to the hot tub and actually made us feel a little protected. (just two ladies) The first time we saw him, it was a bit of a startle - it was dark outside and there he was on the porch, but he was really just the sweetest dog. We enjoyed eating at Jimmy Mac's and Anthony's Italian Restaraunt in Bryson City. The fried trout and catfish at Jimmy Macs was great. Downtown Bryson City seems to close down a little early - not much open after 6:00, but these two restaurants were open later. It is a cute little town. We also visited Cherokee - enjoyed the Indian village and museum. Other things to do in the area - whitewater rafting, tubing, ziplines, hiking ..... We wish we could have stayed longer! Hopefully we can go back someday.

Tina,

What nice comments and a very detailed review. I'm certain that this review will help other travelers who are searching for accommodations. We are so happy to hear that you found our little piece of heaven to be everything we promised! You are right about the little narrow road but there are a couple of places along that stretch where you could safely handle any oncoming traffic. I can honestly say that in the 11 years we have owned the property that I could count on one hand the number of times we have met oncoming vehicles on our way up. There just aren't many folks around up there. We are delighted that you found so much to do and we hope you can return again someday to explore all of the many attractions that you were not able to see on this trip! I agree with you that the fried trout at Jimmy Mac's is delicious. Thanks again for the very nice review!

Best Personal Regards,

Donnie and Brenda

Great, relaxing stay at a clean cabin. The cabin is located by a creek and secluded area in the NC mountains. We will book this cabin again.

“Nice relaxing cabin by a rushing creek”
Reviewed February 16, 2016 for a stay in February 2016

My girlfriend and I had wonderful weekend at this cabin. We spent time relaxing in the hot tub while listening to the rushing creek right below us. We hiked up to the waterfall which I highly recommend. It was a bit strenuous, but well worth the effort once you get there.
Just make sure that you wear a good pair of hiking boots.
The cabin itself was very clean and well maintained. The kitchen had everything that we needed to cook. There's also a nice charcoal grill if you feel like cooking out.
The owners were a pleasure to deal with and extremely helpful. They made us feel very welcome and did everything possible to ensure that we enjoyed our stay.

Donnie & family - Thank you very much for letting us stay at your cabin. We had a wonderful time and look forward to visiting again in the near future.

Sincerely,
Dan & Jenn

“Beautiful cabin with creek and mountain views!”
Reviewed March 20, 2015 for a stay in March 2015

We definitely recommend Fox Run! To us you have the best of both worlds, a heavily flowing creek running through the property and views of the mountains with beautiful sunsets. The cabin is more spacious than the pictures show and one of the cleanest ones we have been in. The owner was very accommodating and making sure we had everything we needed. We will definitely go back!

“Awesome Mountain Cabin!”
Reviewed November 13, 2014 for a stay in October 2014

This was our first trip to the Great Smokey Mountains and we really wanted to experience the fall colors and beautiful mountain views so we picked this cabin and WOW...very happy we did. We drove from south Florida; a very long drive at that and despite our attempt to make it there in daylight, we arrived in the evening (don't recommend that) which made it a little challenging finding the cabin at night. Road leading up to the cabin is as previous reviewers have commented, a climbing gravel road but with the right vehicle not a big deal and crossing the creek at night was a little adventure. :) However waking up the next morning to a spectacular view made it all worth it. First off this cabin is really pretty; the pictures don't do it justice. I love the natural wood used throughout the cabin including the beautiful wood floors except in the master bedroom which has carpet. Side note: Carpet, albeit clean, does has a couple of stains and would benefit from replacing with new carpet or wood floors to improve its appearance. Still a wonderful cabin, nonetheless. The cabin comes with everything you need, especially in the kitchen and even detergent for the laundry, and wifi. The only thing it didn't have which was a minor issue for me was a hair dryer, so bring your own if you need one. I have really long hair and didn't want to be out in the cold with wet hair. I typically bring my own but this time I didn't and I had to make do without it. Not a big deal.

Location: The cabin is situated in the middle of beautiful and colorful mountains and a heavenly creek running down the side of the property. I especially liked listening to the creek at bedtime; our very own white noise. :) There is also a very nice waterfall near the cabin which we hiked with the little map provide by Donnie (owner). It's not an easy hike given it's steepness and narrow trail but once you make it up you'll enjoy the view. Make sure to have proper hiking shoes and trekking sticks; it'll make the climb easier. There's also another Falls nearby, Alarka Falls, but unfortunately we didn't get to see it; definitely next time.

Weather: We went in mid October so we were fortunate to have really great weather (50's-60's) while there and it allowed us to do some nice trails in the Great Smokeys and the Nantahala Forrest. We were able to enjoy the fall colors on the leaves along with the beautiful weather. :) We also did the train ride and museum and the auto scenic road tours. Great time of year to go!

Food: We ventured daily to nearby Bryson City for either breakfast or dinner or both. We also shopped at the Ingles grocery store for some snacks and quick breakfast items. We especially enjoyed eating at the Cork & Bean restaurant. Everything on the menu (not sure about the wine) is organic and very tasty. Needless to say, it became our favorite spot in town. We also ate at an Italian place (Pasqualino's) - a nightmare experience and we DON"T recommend at all... suffice to say we found a roach in the take out box so the leftovers and box stayed with the restaurant; a very disturbing experience. We also ate at Guayabitos Mexican restaurant where the food was good but the service was okay. They also have the typical fast food restaurants so many food options for all.

Overall, we had a great time and enjoyed every day there. We only wish we could have stayed longer. Our furry kids enjoyed themselves too. Donnie was very helpful and responsive to our questions and needs. We look forward to returning soon.

You were wonderful guests and we are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay. We will definitely look into that carpet stain and we may replace it or go back with the cherry hardwoods. “Mountaintop paradise”

We rented this home for our family which consists of two hard to please daughters ages 11 and 16 along with my husband and myself. The drive for south Florida was quite tiresome so we were a bit delirious as we reached the last 1/2 mile up the mountain to this cabin.
I believe that others have mentioned this before but the last 500 feet can scare city folk like myself! At one point you have to travel up a steep incline until you reach a small, one way , gravel road. We were in a Dodge Caravan which did the job but I will still a bit scared as at certain points you can't see what's coming down the hill. However I must add that during our 8 day stay we had no issues with any other cars coming down while we were going up. Anyways once you reach the top of the mountain you have to cross a very small creek, maybe 3 to 6 inches at the most, until you reach Fox Run. The cabin is situated beautifully among the mountains and is very quiet at night and during the day. My brother rented the cabin behind the creek so it was fun walking there everyday.
The property has blackberry and blueberry bushes bordering the property as well as a few mature trees that the wildlife seem to love. The creek made a beautiful noise and was really heavenly . The only downfall on the entire property was the yellow jacket nests that seemed to be everywhere so we just tried to stay clear of them.
The cabin was very clean and had everything we could possibly need for a week or longer.
We enjoyed daily walks around the mountain but unfortunately we were unable to climb to the waterfall, maybe next time.
While in Bryson City we went on a train ride, water rafting , zip lined, hiked, gem mined, viewed waterfalls and took a drive to Harrahs Casino in Cherokee and the Biltmore.
The cabin was located close to the interstate and downtown.
I did contact the owner for a few questions and he was very helpful and accommodating and probably one of the most attentive owners we have encountered.
We will miss the paparazzi that visited us each nigh(the fireflies).
Thank you for sharing your home with us. We will be back soon :)
